Does the watch need to be in a vertical position for the watch winder to work? I left my watch in a horizontal position within a watch winder over a weekend and the watch has stopped. This has happened twice. I have a new watchwinder and am wondering if I am not using it correctly or if it is defective.

What happens when watch brought in for service?
What's generally done to an auto watch when it's serviced? How much does it cost on average to have this service performed? Say for something like the Tag Aquaracer auto chrono or the Omega auto Seamaster? Does the service usually differ in type and cost for different brand watches i.e. Tag vs. Omega?

Scratch Removal Fun
Since I plan on replacing the hesalite crystal on my Cosmic due to a chip in it, I figured I'd take a crack at removing some of the scratches. At the very least it would clean up the watch a bit more, and at worst it would accelerate the search for a replacement crystal!I didn't have any of the standard products such as Polywatch or Brasso, so I had to come up with something else. In building PCs, I often sand down the bases of the CPU heatsinks to a mirror finish (to remove imperfections and improve contact), so I had some very fine grit sandpaper laying around. I first spent about 2 minutes prepping the crystal by polishing it with some Cape Cod cloth, and then I followed that up with about 4 minutes of 1500 grit sandpaper. Okay, so certain TV vendors love to tout the weight of a watch - and one company goes so far as to engrave the gram weight on the case of it's stainless steel pieces.What's the deal with this?Personally, I grow very, very tired of having a heavy watch on my wrist. It's always a relief when I switch to a lighter - and usually thinner - timepiece. Of course, I have relatively slim and small wrists. I'm sure it's different for you 6-foot-plus giants ().Are heavy watches really a good thing? Or are they just a trend - like gigantic diameters? I recall a time when a small, thin watch was the height of elegance and watchmakers' skill. I still subscribe to that theory since smaller and thinner is harder and more expensive to build.Does anyone really want a 300 gram watch? Aside from you giants?

De-magnetizing a watch
Could someone please briefly describe how this process works? Does the watch need to be opened up, or is it as simple as making a pass or two with a de-gausser on the outside of the watch? If I take the watch to a repair shop, could I expect to have this done while I wait?Thanks for any info.
