The 1970s gave birth to four high-end stainless-steel mechanical watches with integrated bracelets. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (1972), the IWC Ingenieur SL (1976), the Patek Philippe Nautilus (also 1976), and the Vacheron Constantin Overseas (1977). The first three were all signed by Gerald Genta, during what many consider to be his creative peak. The other was an ambitious response from a talented 23-year-old named Jorg Hysek. (For many years, it was thought that Genta was responsible for the first Overseas; Vacheron has however confirmed for us that Jorg Hysek was responsible.)Launched last, the Overseas (then called reference 222, in reference to the 222nd anniversary of the founding of Vacheron Constantin) was unlike anything else that had come out of Vacheron Constantin’s manufacture. I just bought a brown Bullhead in Caracas, I paid a fraction of its real price and even though it's well used and has some scratches and dings, it has everything original (including the fishbone bracelet) and its movement works perfectly and keeps good time. I bought a dark brown leather strap and gave the fishbone a rest, by the way. Yesterday I took it to my watchmaker for service, so I'll have to wait for a week to see my baby back. Here are some pictures of it, sorry about the quality but I took them with my cell phone (the first two were taken by the previous owner with a real camera). I promise to take some better pics when I have it back from service.I'll make a review of it soon. Stay tuned!

The postman is my buddy again today! This one needs minimal cleaning up and a very light buff, but will go immediately into the rotation. The inscription on the caseback is shallower than I expected; it may have been partially polished down but we'll see when Sam gets a look at it.
