I don¡¯t post too often in this forum, but I have a question.One of my co-workers is a former WIS. He¡¯s whittled his way down to just one timepiece (nuts, I know).We were outside havin¡¯ a smoke, and I was lamenting my need for a new winder (I have just a single head Lux-Pak that I bought here for ten bucks). I¡¯ve got 13 watches now, most of them autos, and only a single head winder. I¡¯m a watch setting son of a gun sometimes.He offered me a triple-head winder by Underwood for $100.00. Apparently, each head can be removed and run separately on DC power, as well. I¡¯ve looked at the winders on the web and, relying on my in-depth knowledge of winders, opined ¡°Hey, that looks pretty good¡±.Honestly, I wouldn¡¯t know a good winder if it fell on me.I have no aversion to spending the money and, seeing as he used to be a WIS (he used to work at a high-end watch retailer here), my gut tells me he probably wasn¡¯t putting his watches on a piece of garbage. Has this ever happened to you?
Short version. Rolex only guy for many, many years. Discovered Panerai. Started with the 88 then sold it for the 422. Could not get the Rolex GMT2C out of my head though so picked one up BNIB last week as a second watch and have been wearing it since while my 422 sits in a drawer. The GMT2C is beautiful to be sure, love the bezel and the polished links, but I get this feeling that it just lacks something the 422 has in terms of making me smile when I look at it. For one, it now seems smaller than it really is. Second, I think that Panerai are so different and so unique that there is just something special about them. Hard to put into words, really. A presence, I suppose, at the risk of sounding too dramatic.Slapping on the 422 tonight (after bringing it back to life) and will use the GMT2C for golf, fishing, swimming, beach, and hot humid outdoors activities as well as to change things up a bit from time to time. How do folks store their Rolex when not in use? Crown in or out? Watch laid flat or on its side crown up? Winder/No winder?Thank you for your thoughts!
