While the two big releases for Patek Philippe at Basel World this year both happened to be in stainless steel (the new Nautilus Chrono Travel Time 5990 / Annual Calendar Chrono 5960A), it's worth noting that one of its more understated and elegant, but important, timepieces received two updates. The reference 5140 is Patek's round, traditional perpetual calendar, and this year we saw two brand new dials.It is the follow up to the iconic 3940, which is considered to be one of the most important pieces of Patek's modern history – many consider it, along with the 3970, the first serially produced truly complicated timepiece. Its 20-year reign came to an end in 2006 when Patek showed the 5140, which would use the same ultra-thin, self-winding, micro-rotor-powered caliber 240Q. Can't afford it and probably even if I could, couldn't wear it LOLBut this is imo the most interesting Panerai made in years !I love the looks ! the dial, bezel, case, it's amazing.simple but amazing300 pce and the true collectors item for every panerai lover BUT 60 mm makes it for 90% of us impossible to wear.Would you buy a watch you love but will probably wear less than 1 week per year ? Does it give you enough satisfaction, just knowing that you own a real collectors piece, being able to look at it every evening but not being able to wear it.(or only at Panerai GTG and probably Halloween :) :) :))Would you buy it if you could ??Remember this is probably a once in a lifetime oppurtunity. Just got my 114060 today to complete what I anticipate will be my 3 piece set for the next several years. DateJust - Dress with black shoes. IWC - Dress with brown shoes. Sub - All-purpose. Thoughts? New Tudor Glamor Day/Date losing 5 seconds a day
Hi I love my Tudor Day/Date, except that after a week it's averaged a loss of 5 seconds a day. I understand that:1. It's not chronometer certified (-4-+7 seconds/day). But I also understand that its an ETA top movement, and that ETA chronometer movements are just top movements that have been sent in for certification and passed. I also understand that the 2824-2 movement was modified by Rolex in ways that should, I assume, provide additional improvement over off the shelf 2824-2s2. So, I have a top movement (modified by Rolex) that would have failed the certification test.3. So, Should I have it recalibrated (I'm assuming for no charge under warranty)? or:4. Are there any drawbacks/risks to having the case opened for the benefit of correcting one second out of COSC tolerances? (understanding that most would prefer their watches to run fast rather than slow like mine).By the way: my first post - thanks all for a great forum.
