First Vintage incoming (Stowa content)
I have intentionally held off on purchasing vintage watched simply because my knowledge of them is not as strong as I would like to be in order to feel comfortable buying them. Of course, I see beautiful vintage watches posted and lust after them, but making a purchase was a bit daunting. Until I saw this guy, I had to have it...I have a couple of modern Stowa watches on order (new Chrono and Durowe MO), but the wait for those could be a bit yet, I needed something to hold me over. Then I saw this guy on the bay, I was determined to win it. So I did The watch is obviously a Stowa Chrono from the 60's, though I still need to learn more about this particular watch. The condition is incredible and it works beautifully. Overall a stunning watch, very surprised with this one!Here is one pic, will get more soon (need proper day light to due the dial color justice).

The Return Of The Son Of Themes: Elgin Automatic Watches
I decided to take a little hiatus in the 'Themes' thing over Christmas. Partly, I had built up a bunch of newly acquired and/or repaired watches that I was dying to wear, and partly because I could. But I thought I'd start up again with one of the things that makes Elgin unique among American watchmakers - US-designed and -built self-winding watches. Bulova did build some of their '23' series of automatics in the US, but my understanding is that they were kind of a joint Swiss/American project. So, let's start with today's watch: the 1951 Elgin 607 "Bumper" automatic!This YGF case, and the two-tone dial, are probably the ones most associated with the Bumpers, but they also came in solid 14k and stainless.The movement (Shamelessly stolen from Joel (441victor) - I haven't opened mine up since it's a screwoff and I don't have the tools)There was nothing novel about the technology by this time, but it was the very first American-made self-winding wristwatch!
