This week's Bring A Loupe will offer you a combination of vintage chronographs and dress watches from Longines, Rolex, and Vacheron Constantin. And because you usually love Universal Geneve chronos, today you will actually find two of them! This is your Bring A Loupe for October 16, 2015. A Chronograph From Longines With The Famous 30CH Movement, Reference 6651 1 OF 12 The 30CH from Longines belongs to the small group of mythical chronograph movements, along with its predecessor, the 13ZN – the first flyback movement developed for a wristwatch back in the 1930s. The 30CH was produced until the mid-1960s, which makes this 1967 chronograph one of the last manufactured. The dial and luminous numerals display the kind of patina that make vintage watches so sexy. While I could not find much information about the 6551 reference, this 36 mm watch was properly listed in Longines archives. It comes with a Longines certificate and a vintage box; the latter is not n
Hi,I've always been fascinated by mechanical watches, but until I discovered the cheap Chinese watches I considered them to be an impossible dream.I picked up one of the self winding mechanical watches off the internet . I quite like it; however I have a mini lathe and mill at home and have always considered the idea of "building" a watch. Machining a movement from scraps of metal is far beyond me but I've been considering machining a new case and taking the movement. This watch is cheap enough that I don't mind destroying it but I can't figure out how to get it open. I know that there are specific tools to remove the glass and that the case probably pries open but I figured I should ask around before I start wailing on it with a hammer.Whats the easiest way to get at the movement? My current best plan is play with a hammer and chisel for a while then break out the dremel.
My one week old jumbo just took its first hit. Faaaaaaaaack!!!Was using my iPad, and when I was about to put it away, it slipped my hand and hit right on the Jumbos bracelet. I swear I felt my testicles shrink and go into hiding. This is the damage. It's not dinged but it's horribly scratched. Advice? Just take it like a man? Because honestly I'm feeling like a little girl at the moment. 4 links are damaged.
Have the opportunity to acquire a 2011 Aquanaut, model 5167 18-001, the so called jumbo. Pic below, not mine but I believe this photo is the model. Tried it on at AD, great condition, watch has had a Patek servicing, comes with original owner papers, highly reputable dealer in NJ, so I'm confident in the transaction. Price is just under $15k. Good deal?
