My Snowmageddon Nickel Star Watch Case Resto Project
Well, the Snowmegeddon Blizzard is just about upon us in Illinois right now (20" of snow on the way) so I started a case restoration project that should keep me busy for a few days. This is a size 0s, Nickel, Star Watch Case from the late 1920's probably. It had VERY bad gouges on the case back that were nearly .5mm deep in some places and the rest of the case was almost as bad. I am in the opening stages of sanding it down with Emery Cloth, closed coat, fine black paper. As you can see from the pictures I have most of the major gouges removed right now but it's still very course and rough. Quite a bit of sanding by hand still must be done then I will switch over to extra fine paper for awhile then onto the machine to smooth everything out. You can get this aggressive with nickel, silverode, silveroid and stainless steel cases. No dice on gold filled cases though or you will have to pay for re-plating and that gets VERY expensive, around $250.00. That is why I love nickel! It's still w

Those huge bezels
I was noticing this morning how much "smaller" my Rolex Submariner looked compared to my Milgauss, even though both are 40mm. I did some measuring and discovered that the Sub has a 28mm dial, the Milgauss has a 34mm dial. My SMP is 41mm, but the dial itself is only 31mm. The bezels on some dive watches are so big, they tend to dwarf the dial itself. The Sub's bezel accounts for 30% of the total measurement of the watch head. The SMP's bezel accounts for 24.4% of the watch head.

and it looks as good as new. Here are a few Q & D's fresh out of the box:No more hair pulling from the jagged edges after the butcher shop hacked at the side of the bezel and case! Had to lose that old strap though. Even though it's original and very comfortable, I think this watch deserves something classier. First style to try is lizard:Looks pretty darn good if you ask me! First wrist shot tomorrow because you KNOW it's getting worn to work.

Early Speedmaster Moon Watch
Started to think a little about my father's Speedmaster the other day, as it dawned on me that it was probably quite an early model, and he's had it from new.He bought it new in 1966, and he's told me that when it went back to Omega for a service a few years back, he received a communication back from them stating that it was in fact quite a rare model, as it had been used for exhibition purposes, and something to do with a different bezel colour and possibly even the movement. Obviously this is all a little vague, so I've asked him to send me the serial number and a decent image of it - I'll post them here when I get them.In the meantime, does any of tha above mean anything to the Speedmaster gurus amongst you?
