Orient watches are pretty synonymous with affordable mechanicals. In their ever-changing line up, not only are there the typical three hand models, but also models with power reserves, GMT and calendar complications, almost all of which cost under $1,000 dollars. These aren't budget watches, they are watches designed to be affordable and high quality, which is an important distinction. And just to confirm that, not only are these watches Japanese made, they exclusively feature in-house calibers. I actually reviewed an Orient watch before, the Masquerade, right when we started w&w. Gruen"Enamel Quadron" in 14k yellow gold fill from 1929
One of the most art deco watches in the Gruen Quadron line, and not an easy watch to locate. I've only seen 2 yellow examples for sale in 7 years, and perhaps 4 white examples. 38 x 22mm, these photos were taken when I bought it perhaps 6 years ago. When I got it, all seemed to be original old enamel fill, original dial, unengraved back, beveled crystal, and perfect-running 119 Quadron movement. (I have seen one other with a 117 movement, but this case is clearly marked 119-70.) Other than a light rub with simichrome polish (which hid the brassing at the highpoints on the corners), an occasional touch of a jewelers cloth, and a very light cleaning of the dial, and a Debeer handmade strap, all remains exactly as it was the day I bought it. I think I've only worn it once. Hmmm, I might wear it this weekend!

Review of My Seiko Spring Drive SNS001
OK, here is a quick review of my new Seiko Spring Drive SNS001 which I have had for a few months now. First, apologies for the attached photo at the end of this post. I KNOW folks here love wrist shots, and I took several. But I crashed my camera¡¯s memory card trying to get the pictures onto my PC . Hopefully I can add a few wrist shots next weekend.POSITIVES: This watch is amazingly accurate for a "mechanical" watch (more on that below). It is gaining only about one second a month. Remarkable!I really like the smooth operation of the seconds hand.The finish and quality are high quality ¨C although not as high as in my Grand Seiko.It is super-convenient to own and wear. In fact, it has become my ¡°every-day¡± watch. I wear it more than all of my other dozen or so watches combined - and that includes a Rolex, an IWC, an Omega, a Breiltling, a Grand Seiko and a Credor that are all getting very little wrist time.
