Fonderie 47, the company whose premise it was to use luxury product dollars to help clear Africa of AK-47 assault rifles released their first luxury watch, the Inversion Principle Tourbillon, in 2013. The mega-challenging timepiece was designed by Switzerland-based watch creator Adrian Glessing and produced by David Candaux, and focused on the idea of putting a series of retrograde indicators around a centrally-mounted tourbillon. The company began with a series of luxury jewelry products, but the ultimate goal was to have a watch collection to act as the face of the Fonderie 47 brand's products - at least for men.For 2014, Fonderie 47 returns with an 18k rose gold version of the Fonderie 47 Inversion Principle Tourbillon after the initial limited edition of just 20 pieces. Case Polishing Precautions During Servicing
During servicing, the case and bracelet are often lightly polished to give the watch a rejuvenated appearance. In more extreme cases (no pun intended) noticeable nicks and scratches are sometimes removed as well leaving less original case material. Serious watch collectors scrutinize the extent of this process when considering the acquisition of an older vintage timepiece as factory originality becomes paramount.While scratch and nick removal is commonly performed on stainless steel and solid gold watchcases, to what extent can this be done on a gold-filled case? Being that GF is a layer of gold over a base metal, it would seem that even light polishings over an extended period of time could prove to be problematic in terms of maintaining the watch's natural finish and overall appearance.When servicing a movement housed in a GF case, should a watchmaker be explicitly instructed not to perform any polishing in order to preserve the integrity of a GF finish?
