Nice watch, but you can't buy it. No one can. Vacheron Constantin paid a lot of money to make this watch, and they are keeping it for themselves. I guess they enjoy it too much to part with it? Maybe. More likely, the special March Chagall ceiling watch will be on permanent exhibition, traveling around to show off VC's stuff. For the last few years, since 2007, Vacheron Constantin has held a partnership with the l'Opera de Paris (Paris Opera House), and is here making an additional claim on that relationship by reproducing the famous Marc Chagall ceiling from the opera house on a watch dial.I first wrote about this piece here where I was quickly able to decipher what Vacheron Constantin was up to. Moonphase on a drug store watch?
Some years ago I bought a quartz watch at my local (drug store - name omitted) that I believed to have a day/night complication (not that "complication" meant that sort of thing to me at the time) and was immediately disappointed that the "sun" and "moon" didn't trade places from AM to PM. Setting the time after changing the battery the other day I noticed two things: the date quick sets(!) and the disk upon which the "sun" and "moon" reside advances a curious two "bumps" every night between 1 and 3 AM. Now, I'm starting to suspect that the "sun" actually represents the full moon (might explain why it, too, is surrounded by stars). If the disk were to make a complete revolution each lunar cycle it would have to advance about 12.5 degrees per day which I'm not sure it isn't doing.I'd like to check this hypothesis, but any documentation for this is long since disappeared.
