Someone recently asked me whether they thought pocket watches might come back in fashion. John and I spent time discussing this during an episode of the HourTime Show watch podcast and after giving it much thought the answer was a resounding "not likely." So why am I mentioning this before I discuss what is arguably one of the coolest pocket watches around? Because this pocket watch you see before you won't find a place in jacket pockets and be used to tell the time on a regular basis. It will be stored sweetly and safely and played with from time to time. The privileged few owners of these watches will still use a wrist watch as their primary (or at least secondary) means of telling the time. This and other pocket watches will merely be a collector's item. 1960s OMEGA - Worth getting repaired?
Greetings all,I recently inherited an Omega in pretty bad condition. Took it into the sole Toronto Authorized Repair shop and they had to ship it out to Switzerland. The estimate came back at $1175CAD to repair and refinish.The watch is either a:- 1962 SEAMASTER (Reference BA 166.001) (18k Yellow Gold)- 1962 SEAMASTER (Reference BA 165.002) (Gold Plated)- 1968 GENEVE (Reference MD 135.0041) (Gold Plated)The repair shop I took it to noted the caliber as being 2810 but I tried looking it up on the OMEGA site and it didn't seem to exist.I know this is pretty vague - but the watch will come back in pristine shape. It is a keepsake so I do want to get it in working order, but it's REALLY only worth it if the watch is (or may become) within $200-$300 of the price to repair it.Thoughts?

What is a 'rich history?'
I see this term thrown around, and I think it is misused. It is clearly a marketing tool and mainly hype. I certainly don't think you can get the rights to the name of an ancient watch maker and then claim to have a 'rich history.' Rich history implies an unbroken ownership and manufacturer that preceeds the QR (quartz revolution). Actually, the word implies that your company goes far back into history unbroken and in the hands of watch makers and not businessmen and corporate nerds.So, who today actually HAS a 'rich history?' I think Rolex qualifies as it has remained in family hands for many decades and also has 'in house' capability. 'In house' would HAVE to be an important part of 'rich history.' As far as I know, Seiko would qualify. Patek, Jaeger, Cartier, Franck Muller, Corum, Blancpain, Bovet, AP, Roger Dubuis (and the other privates), GO, Nomos, Omega, Panerai, Parmigiani, Piaget, Montblanc, Timex, UN, UG, VC, Zenith....Do these qualify, really?
