How to polish vintage gold and gold filled watches...
Many people on the forum have asked me how I polish watches so I wrote this up. When looking to purchase a watch that you have an interest in to cleaning-up or restoring make sure you select one that does not have any case brassing showing. Case brassing is when the gold plate is so worn-down that the case filling is exposed. Even though the filling has gold within it you will not match the existing plating on the outside of the case no mattering how much polishing you will do.WARNING and DISCLAIMER – Even though I’m sharing with you the methods I use, I’m not responsible for any damage that may occur to your watch. This technique was developed over time and is an art and skill that takes time to learn. I will also point out the equipment and supplies I use and where you may purchase them. Since I didn't see any place for introductionsI guess I'll just post one up here (Mods, please move if there is some place more appropriate).Hi Everyone! I may be new here, but I have been around the block a few times. I really like vintage watches and most of my grails have been vintage. I have a few old pocket watches that I enjoy as well. I am primarily into mechanical watches and not so much quartz. I have pretty far ranging tastes in watches and like a lot of different things, especially the more unusual! I was against dive watches at first, just didn't "get" them, but we all know how our tastes change! Now I have a few nice ones and just love 'em! I have an especially nice collection of alarm watches, mainly mechanical. I just love the alarm complication and feel it is very useful, as well.I would like to be a part of the WTF (the moniker is a little strange!) family and learn from you and hopefully I can bring some of my knowledge to the plate too.As an aside..., I prob

Hey guys,Ok, so one last question on the AD/Gray Market thing;Let's say I buy an Omega online, and I want work done on it, and the company I bought it from can't do it (warranty up, company out of business, etc). I assume I can take it to a decent jeweler and they will do the work on it (for a price, obviously), right?Thanks!

Hello everyone,I'm still waiting for my first Patek to be delivered, a 5990/1a. I went to the mall the other day and stopped by my AD to get an update. They told me it should be here by mid march. I'm also interested in getting a 5711/1R, which I'm trying to find one now. I've always wanted a rose good watch on a bracelet. However, as I was walking around the store, I saw a 5712r, which I was not interested in before, but for some reason starting to like now.I wanted to know what your thoughts are on both watches.Thanks,Majed
