We often get emails asking us for watch recommendations on a budget. When someone asks us to point them in the direction of a good automatic under $300 or a nice dress auto under $500, Orient is always on the top of the list. We've reviewed them many times now and the conclusions are always the same, great watch for the money. But, honestly, that downplays them a bit. Sure, they aren't perfect watches, but they offer quality in-house movements (which is easy to forget given their prices) with complications and often nice designs.While we've looked at sport and military models, larger modern designs and even some unique and quirky versions, the Orient watches that tend to surprise and enchant us the most are their various dress models. Finished a Nice Waltham Transition Bumper Today, RED XII.
I finished a nice Waltham transition bumper today so I thought that I'd share. The clean 15 jewel movement is from 1902 making it 109 years old! Nice and big size 0s movement. The case is VERY nice, it's a stainless steel Illinois Watch Case Company bumper. I worked on the case for about two months on and off, it was in pretty bad condition when I got it and had some bad gouges on the side and case back, had to sand this one down to get them all out. The back of the lugs still some wear but I don't like to hit these very hard as you run the risk of breaking one off. The dial is nearly perfect, no hairlines or cracks. New crystal. I also installed a genuine Alligator band not that cheap grain stuff, spending more on a high end band is well worth the money and really makes the watch stand out.

Looking for a watch...
If any of you saw my Rolex thread you know my Rolex has to go back to the shop and I opine it will be there for 4-6 weeks. I have some watches I've gathered over the years that are just stuff but now that I've found you addicts, I'm getting the same disease - I would like a respectable watch to wear while My Baby's in the shop.I have a hankering to get something like the Hamilton below. Stainless steel, bracelet, black face, 3 register, day-date, tachymeter chrono like their recent Khaki model but that watch is apparently out of production. It has a nice logical, quiet design, 7750 ETA, but its been replaced by some really cr@ppy looking, uhm, junk, that might be a good gift for a ten year old. There's a chance I could order the Hamilton but that could take more than 4-6 weeks. I've researched the watch field and can't find anything quite as nice as that watch at that price (~500 USD) that suits my taste.Any thoughts?

Panerai Pam00448 vs. Pam00449 (UPDATED)
I have just bought my PAM 449 from takuya aka thanh do. Should receive it next week. Will post photos soon.Anyway, after doing some research i realize...PAM 448Is a gorgeous looking watch. Hardly anyone would argue on that. Gorgeous ...highly sort after dial with an in house movement. SE to 750 pcs. However, many are worried about the future value as there are already many cali dial were made before this, especially the PAM 249 being the original. Thus, some might still prefer the PAM 249 if/when the price of PAM 448 goes up to the same as PAM 249. Only + points that lure collectors towards PAM 448 are, lower SE number. 750 pcs comparing to PAM 249's 1936 pcs. In house movement of course, and thicker case thus more beefy looks. Bottom line is, there are still PAM 249 in its way.PAM 449 Besides the looks (either you love it or hate it), it is the 1st prototype of an SLC dial with blue hands. The only reason stopping you from buying this is probably again, the dial/looks of the watch. Ot
