Girard-Perregaux Launches Limited-Edition Sea Hawk Pro for World Oceans Day
Swiss watchmaker Girard-Perregaux released a special, limited-edition model of its Sea Hawk Pro 1000m divers’ watch at a special event at New York’s Museum of Modern Art on June 5. If you like watches enough, you enjoy talking about them. Chances are however that you know more people that don't care about them than those who suggest you go browse at a watch store. How is it that liking watches to us makes so much sense to us while the concept is lukewarm at best when mentioned to others?I've pondered this issue at some length and identified at least three areas of interest or personality traits that should exist in each watch lover. 5905 Blue and 5170G on the wrist.
I was able to try on the new 5905 Blue (well new to boutiques) and the 5170 in black. I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed the 5170 in black, an altogether different feel than the white dial. More pop to the dial and the breguet numerals are very sweet. Wears beautifully too. I was a bit surprised at how soft the chronograph reset button was. I don't remember the movement behaving that way but it's been a while since I played around with the white model. The 5905 was also a surprise. The blue is done very nicely, sunburst, and sleek, but a bit more subtle than I imagined. I still don't love the font on the sub-dial, though in real life it's less prominent than in pictures. The case is big and heavy - 42mm x 14 and it feels every millimeter of it. Though the rectangular pushers lessen somewhat the visual mass.
