There are, let’s face it, not a whole lot of real firsts in watchmaking, which isn’t surprising when you think about its history. The lever escapement, which is found  in basically every modern watch in one form or another, blew into town in 1750; the minute repeater had basically taken on its current form by the end of the 18th century; the first perpetual calendar watch is probably one made by Thomas Mudge, in 1764.  The history of watchmaking is very much a history of small, hard-won incremental improvements that unfolded over a very long period of time, which is why watches like Audemars Piguet’s caliber 2870 automatic tourbillon – less well known for its reference number, 25643, than for the name of the movement, for reasons we’ll see shortly –  continue to be interesting, and continue to be stories worth telling. I'm about a week into owning my AP RO. Here are some of my general thoughts1) Great bracelet so comfortable to wear and light, the watch sits very flat 2) Love the sound of the 22K rotor zipping around ever so often and the looks of the rotor are just killer and a great conversation starter3) The dial face I catch myself zoning out and staring at the craftmanship4) My only negative is that the watch is a scratch magnet :( I picked up some scratches on the bezel on day 2 of ownership and I'm still not sure how it happened. But I'll wear them with pride until I send the watch for servicing~Overall proud owner and member of the AP club.

Costco Datejust 41
Was in Costco yesterday and saw a Datejust 41 2 tone diamond markers for $11,995. I know others had posted but it was the first time I had seen it. I sure was excited when I saw the rolex boxs from a distance. They had a datejust 28 2 tone as well for $9k

VERSUS: Rolex Submariner and Sea-Dweller 16610LV and 126600
Second edition of the VERSUS post/picture (first one - VERSUS: Submariner 1680 v. 16610). Thought it would be fun to compare two watches (and only those two watches) and discuss pros/cons by outlining the differences and getting folks' ideas/thoughts/opinions on TRF. PCL's - If you're OCD, might not be the route to go.
Well, it's been one week to the day that I purchased both a TT Submariner along with a DateJust for my wife. My watch, the oyster bracelet. Hers, the jubilee. By comparison, hers looks amazing. Mine, meh. Don't get me wrong, it's still beautiful/gorgeous, etc. etc. But those PCL's pick up more scratches than a flea bitten dog on a lazy summer's day. I mean one could sneeze on this bracelet and it'll show a micro scratch marking. lol. I know I know, no big thing as they can all be polished to brand new upon servicing. Regardless, if you're one who is crazy OCD about scratches, might want to rethink PCL's. I know I was looking at getting a GMT Master II this week but the PCL's on that one are making me rethink the whole deal. Anyone else see this or am I just spending far too much time looking at the bracelet and then going, What the hell!?
