U-Boat 5571 wrist watches news:
There are certain things one simply doesn't do with valuable watches. Some of those things include underwater diving with a minute repeater and taking apart and modifying a limited edition early A. Lange & Sohne Tourbillon. However, if you must do the latter, it might as well be done tastefully, and by a fellow German company - which is precisely the situation with the one-of-a-kind Blue Merit watch by Grieb & Benzinger.Typically the boys at Grieb & Benzinger make their luxury project watches out of historical movements such as a 100 year old Patek Philippe minute repeater or split second chronograph. For the Blue Merit they have endeavored to use a much more modern movement taken out of an A. Lange & Sohne Tourbillon Pour le Merite. So yes, a limited edition Tourbillon Pour le Merite watch from the mid 1990s was essentially sacrificed for this Benzinger-esque transformation. Was it worth it?Before & After: A. Lange & Sohne Tourbillon Pour le Merite and Grieb &a
I have looked at thousands of Speedmaster images. Saw only one with same dial and it was a special totally solid gold including Omega band. Not sure if Omega ever did a solid gold dial? Also have not yet seen another Speedmaster with the gold bits like this. I guess the 46J 1140 mvnt. was usually gold plated?Update 7/06: pushers and crown plated. Dial partial plated. Little band links and bezel solid 18k. Found identical one for sale in U.K. $2700.
Was it is this ever sold on rubber or leather?
My AD operates in seasonal holiday resorts....one in the summer and another in the winter. As a result the vast majority of his sales are to tourists/passing trade. He of course has regular customers (like myself), but it is very different to a normal city AD.I have known the guy for five years now, in which time I have bought four watches from him (all SS). Whilst two of those watches were eventually sold, he knows I’m not buying to flip.I went to see him on Tuesday (knowing that he had just returned from Basel). I’m now first on his list for both the new SS BLRO and the RG TT GMT. And I absolutely believe him. Before leaving I happened to mention that my nephew is on the hunt for a BLNR. I got the call this morning to come and collect the watch. Three days ain’t bad!Moral of the story....befriend an AD somewhere seasonal.By the way...the BLNR has all its stickers on!
Just wanted to share this one with you guys. My youngest son was due in january, but obviously refused to let the hulk go. He needed it as his birthyear for when i give it to him in 20+ years.Next project will be an Explorer Polar 2015 for my eldest son. What do you guys have in store for your inheritors?
