Gruen Precision with 710 SS Movement
I got this at yard sale last week. Very dirty when I got it and the plastic crystal was scratched badly.I spent a lot of time cleaning the gunk out from everywhere and I even tried my hand at oiling the movement. We'll see how that works out.First, the bad. The gold plating on the bottom of the case is worn through to the base metal on the lugs and on the back of the bezel. The hand and the hour markers have collected a bit of dirt.The good. The top and sides of the bezel look great. So when it is on your wrist, it looks very nice. The crystal, thanks to steel wool, toothpaste, and cape cod cloths buffed out nicely.The movement, once oiled, winds nicely. The rotor reads N 710 SS Precision. The movement itself reads 17 jewels, Swiss, unadjusted. The caseback reads 710 RSS and Made in Switzerland. My best guess is that this is an early 60s model. One interesting feature of the watch is that when you remove the case back, there is another cover over the movement that needs to be

Recommendations for Ultimate (affordable) Minute Repeater
I spent the last hour before falling asleep on my pillow...watching YouTube videos (on my HTC) of Minute Repeaters from Patek, UN, Credor, etc Near the sleepy end, I decided that I will look again at the Quartz/battery option for a Minute Repeater in my collection. Some will remember that I had my CC pulled out at an AD in the Panama Canal and 'almost' bought the Campanola Minute Repeater for $4k usd!? I didn't know until playing around with it, that it was a quartz movement. But more importantly, the shape, large size, and appearance of the small little strap made it uncomfortable to wear. Scrolling down the list on YouTube, I came across the Calibre 9000 Citizen watches. What do you guys think of these 'electronic' Minute Repeaters? Sounds pretty cool for a computer sound?:Dyoutube/watch?v=751poNHRJcQIf anyone can find automatic Minute Repeaters that I may have missed in my searches, please let me know. Is it safe to hack the P5000 movement?
I have a brand new PAM610 and PAM563. Essentially the same movement with a seconds hand showing on the 563. On the 610 it is irrelevant, but on the 563 I was wondering if it was safe to hack the second hand to sync it with a known time (as you would a Speedmaster with gentle reverse traction of the crown). I haven’t played with it yet, but wanted to see what the consensus was. It is also my understanding that these movements are not COSC certified. My 610 certainly gains time over the 8 day reserve. I haven’t checked the 563 yet. I don’t expect Rolex accuracy as they are hand wound. Just curious to hear others’ experience.
