A couple weeks ago, I posted about a Lord Elgin I got for $45. The case was alright, but the dial looked pretty good to me.Genejockey proceeded to tell me that it was a Continental and that the one I had had the wrong crystal, an improper redial, with the wrong fonts, wrong Elgin symbol, wrong crosshairs, and the 23 jewels was in the wrong spot. It was also missing the black enamel around the metal part of the dial. Besides that, it was pefect! Here's the offending piece Hey, at least it had the right movement.Well I found a donor on the bay last week. The case was beat up, the crystal was scruffed (so I tracked down a NOS crystalmore on this disaster later), and the dial was so-so.First step, I painted the dial with black enamel. That is easier said than done. As I thought, the donor's enamel was flaking, but it did show the ridges. I tried several times to duplicate this, but to no avail. My solution was to pour the paint on the outer dial and let it flow completely around. I
OK, I¡¯m finally ready to step up to my first automatic movement and I¡¯ve been searching for something in the sub $500 price range. I¡¯ve been looking online and searching the forums and have somewhat narrowed my choices down to two. I am considering either the Accutron VX-200 series or maybe even a Victorinox Swiss Army Ambassador series. I like the ¡°day¡± feature of the Ambassadors but if the Accutron is a better quality piece I could live without it. I am also still open to suggestions. I¡¯ve been looking for a while now and even with all the research I¡¯ve done there are still many brands or models I haven¡¯t seen yet. My main criteria is Swiss made, SS w/metal band, skeleton back, nothing that looks too outrageous. Also I am not looking for any Invictas. Not that they aren¡¯t good watches (I have a Speedy Reserve) but I don¡¯t want to deal with any service issues, so I guess you could also say that CS is a factor for me as well. I read this forum all the time and it seems almost
Just a update the Bucherer seller fail to tell me the watch needed work (don't run) deal fell though. So I had replace that transaction with this Eterna Matic with a Cal. 1412UD. Don't want to look it up but is there a good book on vintage watches. Here's the seller pic's.
