Vintage Seamaster find - a bargain, or not?
Hi guysI joined this site with very little knowledge, and while I have learned a lot by reading and participating in threads, there is still much I don't know - and this is especially the case with vintage watches. So - today while shopping I found a vintage Omega Seamaster in the window of a jewellers. I don't know any of the details (age, model etc) but it did look like the example below, except it was on a bracelet. I was quite suprised by the price - ¡ê260. And I was running when I looked at it. Dear fellas,Recently I've bought an Everest rubber strap to my Tudor Black Bay, and I would like to share some impressions.I must say that I¡¯ve read a lot before buying it and I was in the same dilemma that most customers searching for a rubber strap were: Everest or Rubber B? Below you will find why I¡¯ve chosen Everest.First, the design. I think that the curved strap connecting to the case ¨C instead of the ¡°drop-down¡± style from Rubber B ¨C and the line running until the end of the strap are two design elements that are simply beautiful. If you look close, the Oysterflex has a similar look: the ¡°arch¡± connecting the case and the running line until the end, not fading on the strap.Second, the cost. Although the strap it¡¯s not cheap, the Rubber B strap costs $ 240.00 ($15.00 more) without any buckle. Stainless sport model shortage... not in my market!
So I have been inquiring on these boards about ADs in the New Orleans, Fort Worth, and Austin markets. We have two local Rolex ADs. One is a Lee michaels, which has a pretty low inventory with regards to stainless sport models but a nice selection of DJ DD and some ladies models. The other AD (which I passed by today) had just about every stainless sport model that I could think of. Only thing missing was a sub date which the gentleman informed me had sold earlier in the week. I was able to try on the BLNR and the no date sub but in the case was a black GMT, Sub no date, deep blue, deep sea sea dweller, the smaller sea dweller, a (SD43 which I was tempted to try on) and explorer II black face and a white face if I recall correctly, and a couple of milgaus as well as a few yacht masters.The cupboard was far from bare!!! I¡¯m not sure why some markets are dried up but this one AD is well stocked!All that said... I think I¡¯m going to pull the trigger on the BLNR when I get back from New Or
