some impressions [/quote]
Hi,I'm afraid I have a watch obsession (or so my wife tells me) so have a number of automatic watches. However, three or four weeks ago I purchased my first Longines, a black (non-chrono) HydroConquest. It was something of an impulse buy, but so far I'm very pleased with it, apart from one thing. I'm really not keen on the design of the crown. Aesthetically it looks fine, but to use I think it's a poor design. The smooth ring at the end makes it very difficult to grip properly. Add to that a movement which isn't the lightest to wind and it's not a pleasant experience.Something concerns me though and I wonder if you Longines experts have an opinion? On all my other watches with a screw-down crown, the action of unscrewing the crown to wind or set the time is very easy and smooth, like simply unscrewing a nut from a bolt (for want of a better analogy). On the Longines, as I unscrew the crown I get a faint clicking sound (and feel) as if the crown is engaged on a spring or other part of t
This from the latest Oris Newletter - but you really should click on the link to the alarm sound - it's like an old alarm clock, but I bet it does the job of waking you up . Not the 'beep beep' of the usual digital watch anyway."The beautiful craftsmanship and elegant but practical appearance of the Oris Artelier Alarm made it an instant classic when it was launched in 2008. For 2009 two new models house the same Swiss made movement with the innovative Oris sound spring. The 'sound spring' was developed by Oris¡¯ technical team to make the clear ringing tone of the Artelier Alarm possible. This tiny component has helped to make this watch one of the most popular in Oris¡¯ recent history. For 2009 the new bi-colour version of the Artelier Alarm features an 18k rose gold top ring, which emphasises the applied rose gold hands and indices. The all silver model has a stainless steel top ring and silver coloured hands and indices. It¡¯s perfect for men of steel.Oris made its name in the 1940s wi
As I showed in this thread: http://www.watchtalkforums.info/foru...htm#post437025We WIS's love to voice our opinions and get opinions from other WIS's, so how about a voting thread. Which one do you like best, keeping in mind the following criteria:Must be sporty enough to be worn with jeansIt has to be sporty enough that I can wear it with at least jeans, preferably with shorts & a short sleeve button down or polo. If it's too dressy for that, it won't get enough wear to justify it.Must be dressy enough to go black tie.On the same side, it has to be able to be dressed up to be suitable for a black tie or tuxedo. So it needs to be able to be thrown on a black strap & sit on the wrist with any black tie occasion39mm's or larger.37mm, 36mm or smaller need not apply. Even 39mm is pushing the lower limits. 40mm-42mm is the sweet spot, but anything 39-44mm will be considered.Must be a "prestige" brand. At the risk of sounding snotty, it needs to be a semi-prestige brand at mini
