SIHH 2013, You Control The Watch Coverage
In about a week I will be on the ground in Geneva covering the 2013 edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). Read this post fully because the important stuff is at the end. This will be our 4th SIHH show, but our week in Geneva doesn't stop there. In addition to the SIHH we will be at the Geneva Time Exhibition (GTE), and meet with a number of other brands who will be presenting in the area. SIHH sounds hectic but in reality it is much more relaxed than the ten plus days you can spend in Basel at Baselworld madly meeting with as many brands as possible.Seeing that many watches can be overwhelming - even for us. And by us I mean that this year it will be more than just me (Ariel Adams) walking around with a bunch of photo equipment. watches-dealer as a team, continues to grow in cohesion. I was at a local Rolex dealer today looking at a Submariner "No Date". The employee working at the store told me that Rolex is planning on continuing to make the "No Date" Sub exactly the way it is now with none of the changes the newer stainless Sub Date has. Has anyone been hearing the same thing from your Rolex dealer?

Mineral Crystal: Why?
I made the mistake of buying a Seiko with mineral crystal once (gorgeous watch, cruddy crystal ). And only once: It scratched within a week of purchase :mad:. It swore me off mineral crystal no matter what; now I only buy watches with sapphire.After my lesson, I wonder if I can bring myself to buy a watch without sapphire crystal. Of course, if there's a nice deal on a reputable brand (Seiko, Citizen) for under $150 or so, I'd probably consider it. However, I don't think I'd ever pay more than $200 for a watch without sapphire crystal. By the way, all my subsequent watches have sapphire, and only one cost over $300. All Tissots, many Swiss Army, and a number of Seikos (for example) have sapphire crystal for under $300. My second point: Is sapphire much more expensive than mineral crystal (for the companies)? I cringe whenever I see a $700 watch with mineral crystal. Why do these companies do that? Alsonot to be confrontational here, why would a person pay so much for a watch with a su
