Christie’s New York closed a very successful season of watch auctions on December 17, with a 365-lot auction of “Important Watches” that achieved a total of $12,926,175, including a new auction record for the highest-selling timepiece, a Rolex reference 8171 “Padellone” in steel. Here are the top 10 sellers in Christie’s year-ending watch auction.1. Rolex Stainless Steel Reference 8171 “Padellone,” circa 1953This exceptional Rolex watch, nicknamed “Sleeping Beauty,” sold for $1,145,000, quadrupling its pre-sale estimate of $250,000 – $350,000. It is a stainless steel and diamond-set triple calendar watch with a moon-phase display and powered by an automatic movement. The final price is a new world auction record for this Rolex watch reference.2. When you first see the Seiko SKA367, the yellow face and high-contrast black hands leap out at you. The dial is eminently readable, and a very cheerful yellow color. The crown also has a yellow highlight band that matches the dial and lends the watch a nice stylistic coherence.
Hi..I never own any German watch before but been serious considering adding a nice German watch to my collection. Lately I been looking at MG Big Sport M12 and Damasko DA 37 from the Gnomon website. I especially like the clean look and solid build of both watches. Is there anybody w experience with these two watches? How do they compare?Appreciated if anyone can help out here. Tks. So here¡¯s what I did, I traded my 2014 BLNR picked up new for a BNIB datejust 41 steel fluted bezel. And I already miss my BLNR.I can still reverse the deal but I only have two days to make a decision.A bit of a background, I¡¯m in a suit 5 times a week and the BLNR used to be my dress piece. I have a sub for casual days and I think I wore it with the suit on several occasions. I wanted something dressier and I was eyeing the datejust II as my first Rolex but it was too big on my 6.5 inch wrist and I thought the DJ36 was nice but I was in my late twenties so I thought I¡¯d get it when I¡¯m a bit older and wiser. As soon as the DJ41 was announced in two tone I was smitten by the way it wore and thought that if Rolex releases it in steel it would be the one, and I jumped on it as soon as I got my hands on one. What do you guys think? I can¡¯t keep both but I can choose only 2 out of the 3; BLNR, sub no date and DJ41.I tried posting pictures but for some reason I can¡¯t do it on Tapatalk but wi
