1120 Movement Sounds
Hi All,When winding your cal 1120 watch, do you notice any sounds at all?When I first purchased my 2254.50 over a year ago, the winding was buttery smooth and the movement didn't make any noise. 6 months later, when manually winding the watch I could hear a slightly raspy grinding sound, which I'm accustomed to on all other automatics I've had the experience of winding. Now, there is this noticeably louder clicking sound when I wind the watch. It only occurs once with each time I twist the crown...and can be heard even if I extend my arms and wind the watch far away from me. Now, I noticed this problem when the watch is fully wound, and haven't had a chance to let the power reserve dwindle and test it again when it's not fully wound. I kinda have a hunch that it's the 'clutch thing' that engages whenever a watch is fully wound to prevent overwinding. To Service Grand Seiko (Spring Drive and Hi Beat Automatic): Must return to Japan?
Greetings (inaugural post)!Have the pleasure of recently acquiring 2 Grand Seikos [Divers Spring Drive and HI Beat 36000]. My understanding is that when servicing required (the watches are new, so in 3-ish years time ) they must be returned to Japan/Seiko. Is there not a North American outlet capable? And what is the average cost/turnover time for such a service? Thanks in advance. NTP

Go for it? A 5711 blue dial, recently overhauled by PP
I got hooked on the 5711, and the one I am considering is from 2006, but recently overhauled/polished by PP 2 months ago. It's 9 years old with the screws bracelet. Has complete papers, with overhaul statement. Even the mail-in paper to register it with PP. The recent overhaul is a big plus factor, I think.I was wondering if there would be any benefits to wait and try to find a newer one? At first, I couldn't believe why anyone would want this rather plain-looking VERY EXPENSIVE SS watch. I had never even held one, so went to see what it was all about. The funny part is that the 5711 was covered in plastic wrap, so when I first looked at it, I decided it was too dull and underwhelming. Nothing spoke to me. My friend with me also agreed it was just dull. Then the dealer took off the wrap, and I could hear opera, you know, arias streaming from the blue dial.
