Another Trivial Mystery Solved!
In the Elgin Service Manual, in the Parts section, there's a listing for 'Pinion, Cannon for curved or spherical reg. or flat Nite-Glo'. I could understand why you'd need a different cannon pinion for curved dials - you need to raise the hands farther to clear the higher dial center. But why use the longer cannon pinion on a luminous dial?Well, my question was answered when I looked on the back of what to all appearances were regular, non-luminous Dauphine hands. There was lume on the BACK of the hands. Presumably, this would cast light on the dial underneath the hand, and the hand itself would be a shadow in the middle of it. The reason for raising the hands is to have the light spread far enough to see.I think this explains what looks like diffuse radium burn on the dial of a Lord Elgin that Indyago posted. Regular luminous hands leave small, intense burns because they're closer to the dial, while 'Nite-Glo' hands would leave a more diffuse burn.

I'm quite new to the Panerai scene and could do with some help.So I'm currently wearing a Panerai but i cant find any info on it.I can find info about a very similar one Which had 1000 pieces made and a slightly different power reserve on the face.This panerai is a Luminor Power Reserve (Officine Panerai - Firenze 1860) No.336 out of 500. I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while now. I thought it's about time I joined with the discussions and to contribute something. I am an avid collector of various watches since not too long ago and I just added this one last week:Brand/Model = Longines - ConquestCase Material = 18k solid (pink) gold Movement = manual automatic windingSeries 291, serial#1147xxxx, ca 1959/1960. Band = generic after market leatherIn spite of its old age it gives very accurate time . It fits nicely with my smallish wrist. So far so good, no problem 'yet' ! DSOTM strap question
Has anyone ever tried to put the black strap from a DSOTM onto a standard speedmaster pro? I know that strap is 21mm and the standard moon watch has 20mm lugs, but was wondering if anyone ever tried it (when I had a FOIS I was able to use 20mm straps despite it having a 19mm lug width, but the DSOTM strap might be too thick to compress?)Anyway, any help would be appreciated
