Baselworld 2015 is over, and we’ve seen a number of new tourbillon watches among the offerings. Here’s a look back at the most interesting, clever, and daring variations on the now-ubiquitous tourbillon watch presented in this year and last year.. For its Breguet Classique Tourbillon Quanti¨¨me Perpetuel, which combines a tourbillon with a perpetual calendar, Breguet (the modern brand named for the tourbillon’s inventor) strove for an intuitive display of the indications by lifting the hours and minutes chapter to the foreground of the dial, above the one-minute tourbillon at 6 o¡¯clock. A triple hand on the tourbillon cage indicates the seconds, a subdial at 9 o¡¯clock with an engine-turned wave pattern shows the days, and a blued steel hand at 3 o¡¯clock points to the months on another subdial with an engine-turned sunburst finish. Celebrating Connoisseurship With A. Lange & Sohne Watches
Back in early 2009 I visited A. Lange & Sohne's manufacture in Glashutte. It was actually the first watch manufacture I visited, and now almost three years later I have much to compare it to. It is actually a shame that I saw Lange's manufacture so early in my career because I did not properly know how to appreciate it at the time. Don't get me wrong, I was thoroughly impressed during my visit, but I would have been much more impressed had I seen other places first that don't necessarily deliver the same experience and level of product. Even on a larger scale, Lange is the type of brand you can only really appreciate after getting to know many other watches first. I think that by definition that makes it a connoisseur's brand.This idea gets me thinking about what it means to be a connoisseur and how watches fit into the overall world of connoisseurship. Patek Philippe Revamps Generations Ads
More of an official portrait that the earlier "generations", Patek Philippe ad new images present sounds which are substantially older than before. Presentation of the product was also amended, with watches that appear in the blocks of Brown, with the iconic tagline "you never actually own a Patek Philippe, you merely look after it for the next generation". To create new images, Patek Philippe and his London-based advertising agency to that Leagas Delaney turned famous photographer Craig McDean mode. In addition to creating portraits of celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Joaquin Phoenix, Natalie Portman and Uma Thurman, McDean has been behind the lens for a series of luxury brand advertising campaigns including Gucci, Giorgio Armani and Yves Saint Laurent. In 2008, the International Center of Photography (ICP) submitted McDean with an infinite price for his achievements in fashion and advertising photography. Another polishing question.
I am the happy owner of a Speedmaster Pro purchased in the late 70's. It's had four cleanings in that time, no repairs and NEVER been polished.The patina of the hands and dial face is very nice imo and the lume surprisingly shines brighter than my 1997 Rolex Sub.Now the time has come for a major overhaul and since the case has 30+ years of wear and tear I am tempted to have it cleaned up. My watch man is very established, has both Omega and Rolex accounts with top of the line refinishing machines and assures me metal loss will be microscopic and minimal.Inspite of usually being a rather decisive person I'm on the fence with this one. Resale is not an issue since I plan to pass this timepiece on to my son.Given that I'm pleased with the patina under the crystal and have no desire to replace the dial or hands, will a polish bringing it close to new status look odd ?I've been reading all the pros and cons over the years and would appreciate some personal opinions.
