It's hard to argue with a good Seiko. Affordable, well built and generally cool looking; they sort of define value in mechanical watches. Typically, we've reviewed watches from the Seiko 5 series, which range from absurdly affordable to incredibly affordable. Today, we're going to take a look at a Seiko Superior, which is a couple of rungs higher on the Seiko product ladder. Coming in at $250, still quite low in the scheme of things, the Seiko Superior SSA059 is packed with features, looks wild and is a limited edition of 2500.The SSA059 caught our attention for a few reasons; one was the intense look of the watch. With a black case and dial accented with acid green markings, interesting layering, texturing, compass functionality and a rugged nylon bund strap, this is a robust watch with a very aggressive attitude. I may be new to watches, but I think mine's broke! Please help!
I recently bought my first watch that costs more than $25, but I think it's broke! I bought an Emporio Armoni AR4647 online and received it Thursday last week. I wore it once out on the town and the auto winde works great, but when I leave it sit in the case on the dresser, it will stop ticking after 4-6 hours, and needs wound. I thought these kind of watches could sit for 24-40 hours without being wound? I will manually wind it until I feel a little tension, then stop because I read that if you over winde it, it could break the spring or something. But I've also heard that the newer watches have a clutch that prevents damage. Maybe I'm not winding it enough? In ignorance, when I first set the watch, I wound it backwards just a hair to align the second an minute hand together. Could this have broken it? Or could it have been broken out of the box? It's a skeleton watch, so I can see the spring, when it stops ticking, it looks very unwound, and after I winde it, the spring still looks l

Louis Erard Heritage Paris
Today, while the wife was trying on (and buying) a new Hamilton, I was looking around the discount house and came upon the Louis Erards. I started to buy one with my usual very conservative dress look - applied numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 and applied indices for the rest. But then she pointed out this Heritage Paris one and noted that I did not have a dressy black-face watch with stark contrast and Arabic numerals. So I bought it at what I believe to be an exceptional price. The case is 40.3mm not counting the crown; it is 11mm deep. Big dial makes it look bigger, but think Rolex Sub and you get an idea of actual size. I'm not sure of the dial material, or the numbers, but they give the appearance of enamel. Movement is the workhorse ETA 2824-2. One thing's for sure: I don't need my closeup glasses to tell the time!

What's the value of this Essence watch?
