Audemars Piguet 25820SP.OO.0944SP.02 wrist watches news:
The HODINKEE Collectors Summit is really taking shape. Not only will we have the likes of Aurel Bacs, Jason Singer, John Reardon, and Philippe Dufour in the house for completely candid, behind the scenes conversation with you, but we are thrilled to announce a new addition the schedule. And it's a big one. Like, to the tune of $24,000,000. Daryn Schnipper is the international chairman of the Sotheby's watch department. She is the woman responsible for selling the most expensive, most important watch on the planet, twice. Yes, Daryn is the woman who first set the record at $11 million dollars for the Henry Graves Supercomplication – one we thought would stand for all eternity – only to break it this past November by selling the very same watch for over $24 million. She'll be at the 2015 HODINKEE Collectors Summit to tell you what it was like first discovering this horological giant and then going through the process of researching it, understanding
This isn't any original research on my part and I just happened to come across them while trying to find some information on the Lord Elgins with the 760 movements (plus, I think I followed some links from Genejockey's Elgin blog as well). Some of this may well have been posted, but for those who haven't seen it, it might well be enlightening. I'll just post a bit from each page and then link them.[ELGIN] Forgotten Masterpieces: The Last ElginsThe American Automatics:Along with the 607 and 618, the Elgin 760 and 761 have the sad honor of being the only American made automatic movements. Even as they were being developed, other American companies were giving in to the Swiss dominance of the market. Hamilton adopted Swiss ebauches for its automatics; Waltham had tried that, but had already gone out of business in 1957, as Elgin audaciously pressed on.As a completely independent design, these movements offer a number of innovations not seen at their time. They provided bi-directional, f
Good day all!So I borrowed my uncle's PP 5711 Blue Dial nautilus. My friend noticed I wasn't wearing one of my usual watches and asked me about it.He then asked me how much it costs, and was surprised when he learned it was a SS watch, at that price. He didn't deny how beautiful it is of course. Was just surprised one wouldn't go for a full gold or WG Rolex at that price range - especially since there really aren't any complications on it.He then asked me what is so special about this watch ?I am curious how you guys would have answered this question! :)
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Mods please relocate if necessary. The other day I bought a 16710 from a private party here in the SF Bay Area. For the past 18 years he assumed that he had the correct warranty papers for the watch but it turns out he didn't. He bought a 1997 16710 in 2000 at Fourtane Jewelers in Carmel Ca but the jeweler gave him Rolex paperwork for a 16700. I'd like to reunite the warranty card with the owner of the 16700 if possible and I'd be happy to mail it to the owner free of charge. Please PM me if this is your missing warranty.Style Number: R16700A30B7879Serial Number: U156789Original owner: Adrian ParraOriginal Purchase Date: 1/23/98While I'm here I might as well post up a photo of my new 16710 :)
I already own a 16610 Sub Date and looking to add a no date Submariner. I came across a Submariner 14060 “P” serial two liner. It’s for the head only. No matter, because I wanted to use Everest straps anyways. History is unknown. Service is unknown. No box or paperwork. I’d say the case is a 6-7 shape and insert has a few marks. Asking is 3,800, but I think that’s way too high. Am I wrong? Gut says walk away unless the price is in the 2K range.
