Affordable Vintage: Seiko 6138-0030 "Kakume"
Of all the incredible chronographs produced by Seiko in the 1970's, in my opinion there is one that stands head and shoulders above the rest: The 6138-0030 aka "Kakume". During this era there were two main chronograph calibers used, the single register 6139 and the dual register 6138. The fiercely popular 6139-600X (aka "Pogue") chronographs get the lions share of attention due to their status as arguably the first automatic chronograph in space, having been worn by William Pogue during space flight. By comparison the 6138 series is under appreciated, but it definitely stands tall in its own right.The 21 jewel 6138A released in 1970 was the first fully integrated automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch coupling mechanism. Some time later, they switched to the 23 jewel 6138B. They are both automatic (rotor winds in both directions like most Seiko calibers) and hand windable, which is uncommon in vintage Seikos, and the day and date feature a true quickset mechanism

Omega Issue
As you can see I'm new to the forum and would like your thoughts on the following issue.For my 40th, in August, my wife gave me a watch that I've been looking at for a long time The Omega DeVille Power Reserve.In October/November it started behaving erratically Keep in mind that I took good care of this watch, not like the beating my workhorse IWC gets Time would be off a few hours per 24hr period The seconds hand would not tick despite the Power Resevse indicating fully wound??? Then sometimes the seconds had would tick with the Power Reserve on empty???So I sent it back directly to ETA in NJ. About a month later, I got it back and after a couple of weeks it was back to the same problems. The watch is now back at ETA and their service people told me it was magnetized. Strange becuase the first time I sent it back it was checked for magnetism and nothing was found??? I recently called back and now there's no record of magnetism??? It stopped
Last night I was checking how the mechanicals were doing when I noticed the TT3 had stopped. Must have wound down even though I had worn it the previous day...oh well. Turned the crown to wind it and it felt light...a few more and usually it starts going. Not this time. Rather disappointing but stuff happens. Made note to call Oris for their send in service procedures and I called them this AM. Gal told me that the Hawthorne service center will no longer be the official repair center for Oris as of next Tuesday. After Tuesday check the website for the updated repair center info. UGh...What is going on with Oris USA? Parnis - good or bad?
So, I'm cruising eBay and I see a brand called Parnis. The sellers seem to be based in China or Hong Kong, with a few in Taiwan. A lot of these homages* seem to be made in China, with Chinese movements. I'd like to know if these are any good, longevity-wise. A lot of them are hand-wound; good on Parnis for keeping this tradition going. They seem cheap enough; some of their Rolex homages are only half the price I paid for my dear old Sandoz (USD$450.00). I'm considering some of their PVD covered items (Rolex doesn't use PVD, and Pro-Hunter isn't officially recognised by Rolex, so I'd say that's enough of a variation to put the PVD-covered homages in my 'acceptable' category). I do want to know if the brand is worth the price - many of these homages are between USD$110-$150. Is this price worth it, for what you get? How's the quality, longevity, accuracy? Jumbo Arrival
So originally I had set the budget to get a Nautilus 5711, Royal Oak 15202 and a stainless Daytona (or just one Platona). Unfortunately, someone close to me was diagnosed with a terrible disease and I decided to give him half the watch budget to help with medical bills. With a new budget I decided on selling my old Royal Oak and getting the Jumbo + Daytona. Haven't ordered the Daytona yet but I'm actively looking and should be soon.Thanks to takuya (an awesome seller) for the fast delivery.
