The trouble with Watch mags
Just stopped by B&N to grab some watch mags - and walked away empty handed. I flipped through InSync and HR and decided not to buy.Why?These are fan-zines that don't really address the issues that confront consumers. While I actually like InSynch, it's filled with tidbits, nifty stuff on new watches and cool photos, there's no critical analysis. Every brand - and every watch - is wonderful. There's no edge and no discussion of what brands we, as consumers, should beware of. That said, the magazine does give insight into trends, which is useful and entertaining, and is very nicely done, professional and slick. I enjoy it and I understand it fills a niche - and does it quite nicely.HR is another story. After it's recent redesign, I can't tell exactly what it wants to be. Cars, movies and some slick watch advertising, but where's the horological beef? Went to look at a Breitling Colt and my watch dealer had to pull out this watch. Tissot Seastar 1000 auto this watch has been on my list for yrs. Here the pic's I'm going the wrong wayShould be selling not buying.

just bought my first watch ever, but im a noob!
im 24, just bought my first watch ever, a wittnauer 10b10i saw it and i had to have it. i am trying to set it up but the little booklet that comes with it is pretty much no help. i think i set the day and timecould someone take a look at the watch and tell me what the little chronograph things are and how to set / use them?yeah when i say im a noob, i mean it haha.

Female watch makers?
Female watch makers?The other day someone asked me about female watch creators or watch makers.I was somewhat out of my depth and had to admit that I know not even a hand-full of female watch creators.The most inspiring is Mrs. Saskia Maaike Bouvier from Geneva. To my knowledge she is the only female watch creator focusing not on design only but being an accomplished watch maker taking equal care of the mechanical side of her watches.This year Mrs. Bouvier shall show her watches at Baselworld at the booth of the AHCI, the acad¨¦mie horlog¨¨re des cr¨¦ateurs ind¨¦pendants (Academy of Horology of the Independent Watch Creators). She is currently a candidate to become a full-fledged member of the AHCI. The members of the AHCI are ones being at the avant-garde of horology and their booth is one of the few fixed points of abode I have at Baselworld.I am particularly curious to take a closer look at Mrs. Bouvier¡¯s latest creation The Eight Moon or in French huit lunes.

Vintage speedmaster dial...?
I was in a cafe playing backgammon with the owner last week and one of his other friends comes in and sits down and watches us.The whole time I kept staring at his watch because I knew it was an Omega but I've never seen a dial like his, so I finally asked.Apparently it was a Speedmaster he got as a gift in the 80's from a friend.The dial was all white, but it had a weird look to it, kind of like carbon fiber? I have no way to really describe it. It was white, but not like Explorer II white on a Rolex.Edit: it wasn't mother of pearl, either. Unless they used a different style of MOP dials back then. And I hate to say it, but coming from Egypt, the possibility of a fake could be considered, if nobody can find what I'm talking aboutAny ideas/photo suggestions? I want to trade my Tag for one before I buy my Deepsea now.
