Oris has lousy resale value - true??
I've just read in another forum that Oris is right up there as a watch that depreciates significantly after purchase. Admittedly there was no supporting evidence given, so it's no more than one man's opinion.But I'm curious, have any of you experienced this? Is Oris any better/worse than other brands?? Tag Heuer was also mentioned as a fast 'depreciator' - this one I can understand. Tag have been positioning themselves as a prestige brand for a few years now, and charging high prices (IMHO) to encourage a perception of high quality ("It costs a lot so it must be good, right...?"). This is not Tag bashing, I own one (okay, it's an old one), and I love some of their models - the Carrera is on my permanent 'will own one day' list.But I just don't see Oris in the same way. I don't think they are pushing themselves as an overpriced luxury brand; after all their marketing slogan has been 'real watches for real people' or something similar, for some time now. Considering trading/selling my Explorer I (39mm) for Omega Aqua Terra
First of all, I'm sure I'll regret this because I love my Explorer. It's one of the most comfortable watches I've ever owned and I just love the look. HOWEVER, the one thing that is starting to bother me is the lack of date. With that said, I've been considering a similar watch/look/pedigree, so the 41.5 Omega Aqua Terra Calibre 8500 is a possible replacement. I need to check it out in person, because I'm not sure if I'll like the teak look of the dial. Perhaps I should also consider an older Aqua Terra for the glossy black dial? Weighing a Rolex (Part II?) to verify authenticity
While trying to figure out if a 1985 Rolex DateJust (model 16013) with Jubilee bracelet is (1) real and (2) legit, I saw the How much does it weigh? thread here but, alas, it is closed.I'm convinced it is real, based on numerous sites' information about this model/date Rolex. In pursuit of total verification of that I weighed the watch on a kitchen scale that seems to be fairly accurate and got 104 grams across multiple weighings.So...for those of you in the know of such things, does this make sense? The above-mentioned thread has a range of weights for different watches and this SEEMS to be in the ball park; I wasn't able to find a thread (minimal searching) about this particular model's weight.Any feedback w.r.t. this weight is appreciated.
