Hands-On: A Totally Unique And Transparent Vintage Pocket Watch From Hamilton
Hamilton's film What Makes a Fine Watch Fine opens with a shot of a transparent watch, its gear train seemingly floating in air. Today we are used to seeing brands advertise their new watches with computer rendered animations that show the mechanics of a watch movement in amazing clarity. The absolutely crazy thing about that film, and the watch that it shows, is that it was shot in 1947. The watch is a unique version of Hamilton's model 992, with plates and bridges made from lucite. It comes from the collection of René Rondeau, a watchmaker, dealer and historian specializing in Hamilton watches. Seeing this watch in person is insane. Am I the only one who may prefer the 5711 to the 5712?I have a chance to get 5712a and/or 5712r but may go for 5711a instead. Also the wg is becoming interesting maybe more so than the steel especially after my 5167 purchase.

My pal the postman came today, and as required by Scott D to make up for a non-watch picture in the Community Forum here's 2 watch photos of the new member of the family:This one I purposely darkened so you can see the pattern on the movement:and this is the one I sold to make room for the Elgin:I don't like selling ANY watch, but I never wore it anymore and with what I got for the Movado I not only covered the Elgin, but I have several hundred more to go hunting with now! Tomorrow I'm taking a walk down Antique Row and I'll be visiting my watchmaker so who knows what will jump on my wrist. Thanks,Dennis

Montblanc GMTPrice: $1700This Big Man's watch is in near mint condition . Has a heavy stainless steel case with a diamond bezel that has a total of 1 carat of diamonds. This case has a stainless steel screw on back that with sapphire crystal in the center which makes the movement visible . Case is marked "Water Resistant 30M-Swiss Made-Stainless Steel-7081" and 2-tone stainless steel winding crown that has a black center with a white star just like the Montblanc pens have. Black dial with silver numbers, silver hands with luminous centers, date at "6" and silver 24 hour indicator that has a red tip. This hand tells the hours in military time. 21 jewel cal. 4810 405 rotor type automatic Swiss movement is running well and keeping good time. Heavy stainless steel band that has a butterfly locking clasp that is marked "Montblanc". This band is a little short for me but I wear a long band but perfect for someone with a smaller wrist. Very nice and big enough to surly make a statement.Size 4
