If three watches constitute a trend, then measuring milliseconds, or 1/1,000s of a second, is a trend. Two watch brands, each with high-speed horological histories, have launched mechanical chronographs claimed to be capable of accurately measuring 1/1,000s of a second. Last year, TAG Heuer debuted its Mikrotimer Flying 1000 Concept Chronograph, followed this year by the even faster Mikrogirder. At SIHH this year, Montblanc launched its own millisecond-measuring marvel, the TimeWriter II Chronograph Bi-Fr¨¦quence 1000, which employs a unique approach to splitting seconds.In a sense, development of Montblanc¡¯s high-speed chronograph began in 1916. That¡¯s when Minerva launched its first 1/100s-of-a-second stopwatch. Acquired by Richemont in 2006, Minerva was a true manufacture, known for chronographs and pilots¡¯ watches. There are, let’s face it, not a whole lot of real firsts in watchmaking, which isn’t surprising when you think about its history. The lever escapement, which is found  in basically every modern watch in one form or another, blew into town in 1750; the minute repeater had basically taken on its current form by the end of the 18th century; the first perpetual calendar watch is probably one made by Thomas Mudge, in 1764.  The history of watchmaking is very much a history of small, hard-won incremental improvements that unfolded over a very long period of time, which is why watches like Audemars Piguet’s caliber 2870 automatic tourbillon – less well known for its reference number, 25643, than for the name of the movement, for reasons we’ll see shortly –  continue to be interesting, and continue to be stories worth telling. Submariner or Sea-Dweller?
OK all.. If you were buying one Rolex diver, and only one, which would you buy & why? Your choice is the Submariner Date or Sea-Dweller. These watches are very similar in look. To the layman, they're virtually identical (I know, we know better though ). But, which do you prefer???Do you prefer the 'classic Rolex' look of the Sub Date & the cyclops on the crystal or the cleaner, though thicker & heavier, look of the Sea-Dweller? Winding my everyday watch.
Should my 14060m be regularly wound? It's my daily watch that I don't ever take off long enough for it to stop. I haven't wound it in months. It loses about 10 seconds a day. Could it perhaps run more accurately if I kept it wound?-AustinSent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
