IWC Opens Flagship Boutique in Hong Kong
Hong Kong and Schaffhausen may seem worlds apart, but they have something in common: a very special place to view IWC timepieces. IWC’s Flagship Boutique is their fourth Hong Kong location, and the most extravagant, and it may provide a model for future boutiques in key markets. The Portuguese collection is displayed in a Navigators’ Lounge with dark wood floor panels and custom recessed glass display cabinets reminiscent of a luxury yacht. The Pilot series is housed in the Sports Lifestyle Wing with 1930s club chairs and IWC aviator jackets. This room also offers a flight simulator. Da Vincis are displayed in an atmosphere of inventiveness and aesthetic sophistication. The Aquatimer room conquers the depths and presents the intriguing story of the Galapagos Islands. Each room brings the collection to life.

Popular “budget” brand, Techn¨¦ looks to have another winner on their hands with the recently released Merlin Collection. The military inspired pieces – reminiscent of airplane cockpit instrumentation and early mil watches – are available in a time (with seconds) only or a multi-function version. ?The movement inside of each is a Seiko Instruments quartz movement, specifically the VD78.A quick look at the specs reveal a very moderate 38mm size with 20mm lugs and a mineral crystal. Water resistance is shallow at 50M, which is logical for a watch with pilot-styling. The watch has a number of options for the strap at purchase: NATO, canvas or cowhide leather options are available for each model. I found a watch for sale, and can't find much information. Here is the ad: Longines wittnauer men's dress watch from ~1960's, not sure of the exact model, the paperwork says it's a "dia-aristo 3f". Comes with original paperwork and registration from wittnauer and the original owners manual.I contacted the seller and I was told that the watch was purchased in 1966 by the sellers grandfather. Heresy: the 5167r isnt growing on me...
Bought a 5167r a few months ago and wear it most weekends. Nice, but to be honest not thrilling - the dial on my black AP 15400st is nicer and more interesting to look at and it is easier to dress up than brown on composite strap - unlike the AP I dont ever wear the 5167r during the week. Would like a PP for my collection (which is otherwise all rose gold and includes an IWC chronograph classic, a day-date presidential, a reverso grand duo, an ALS 1815 chrono and a GP 1966 classic) but not sure the 5167r is going to be the one.Not interested in AC or PC complications. Am thinking about trading down for a steel 5167, trading laterally for a 5164 (I do travel a fair bit), or trading up for a 5980r on leather. Giving the 5167r more time is also an option as I am not pushed to move it. Would appreciate advice.
