Questionable "Restoration" question
So, I recently married a very amazing woman with a rich family history. She from her grandfather inherited a vintage 1950's Seamaster watch which she passed along to me. To our surprise after being in a box for 20-30 years it still worked (talk about craftsmanship!!) One day i was winding it and the crown fell off in my hand which freaked me out so I got on the official Omega website and rushed to the only place listed. Jared the Gallarea of Jewelry and had it sent off. I thought I paid for a full restoration 650 USD. When I finally got it back the crown didn't have the official Omega stamp like the previous one had and was no longer Waterproof. In fact it is not even water resistant. I also thought I would get a certificate of authenticity and a copy of the watchmakers book that had a little history on the piece. Can anyone tell me first a bit of its history ( I am dieing to know), if I have been ripped off and does the crown \ waterproof depreciate the value? the s\n is 2849-3SC2849-

Thoughts on Alpha watches?
I know there are some intrinsic and subjective differences between more expensive and prestigious watches and watches such as the Alpha line.What I am wondering now is if there is much of a practical difference. How will the accuracy and longevity of a typical example of an Alpha compare to a similarly featured watch that will cost 10, sometimes 100 times as much?I'm seriously interested in an Alpha dual time jump minute automatic that I mentioned in a different post.Another thought is that for the price of well under $100.00, how much can you get hurt if it doesn't last as long? It seems like it would be cheaper to replace a $100 or less watch every few years than to get a more expensive watch serviced.I guess the real question in my ramblings is whether there is really any OBJECTIVE benefit to buying a nice hand finished watch and having it serviced every howevermany years versus buying a less than $100 watch and replacing it every howevermany years.Don't get me wrong - if I could

I'm newly interested in ap and was wondering if ADs tend do discount on watches like the royal oak? If so, what sort of discounts can you expect?

Dilemma, what to do??
Recently the 5980 has been giving me an itch, especially the grey dial version, (though I have yet to see one) which as hard as I try to resist it, is a persistent little sod.Now unfortunately funds is a little short at the moment. But would you consider doing the following trade?My 5205G against the 5980A? Hey all,So my AD asked me the other day what stainless piece I¡¯d be looking for next, and, as a reflex, I stated ¡°A white face Daytona.¡±But my wife asked ¡°what about a skydweller?¡± And, after discussion, I¡¯m reaching out. I have a black face Rolex, and a blue on the way, so I¡¯m really thinking white. What do you guys think? Skydweller or Daytona?
