Breaking News: Harry Winston Is Acquired By The Swatch Group (Plus Some Things To Consider)
While there have been rumors that famed NY-based jeweler and watchmaker Harry Winston was in "sell-mode" for a while, we don't think anyone expected this.? In news coming from both side of the equation today, 100% of the Harry Winston company has been acquired by none other than the owner of Omega, Breguet, Hamilton, and like a zillion other watch brands, the Swatch Group.This marks a decided change for Winston, who was for a long time completely independent and privately held, and most recently, publicly traded but essentially independent.? To be fully acquired by a large conglomerate will mean a lot of changes to Winston, and we'll be anxious to see how this plays out.Here are some things to consider in this deal, from our perspective:- Harry Winston is considered the only true "high-luxury" brand remaining in America.? Benrus
I posted the "before" picture of this Benrus a few months back. My brother worked in the HVAC field and had found it in a heating duct. From the looks of the watch it was probably in there for decades. Well here is the "after" picture. It keeps amazing time and looks pretty decent too. This is the first Benrus in my collection that consists mainly of Gruen, Hamilton and Illinois. I usually wear older vintage watches (20's and 30's) and I'm surprised at how sleek and comfortable this is on the wrist. Now I might have to go hunting for the Skychief!

Swiss Army date advance question
Hi All: I recently bought a Swiss Army Vintage Infantry watch, and I have one question. When I turn the winding stem out to advance the date the hour hand advances in one hour increments with an audible clicking sound. So rather than advancing the date wheel a day at a time, I am advancing the hour hand as many times as it takes to reach the 12 PM hour and then the date wheel turns over. Does anyone know if this is how this watch operates? Or is there something wrong with it? The owner's manual is generally vague to suit various models and does not address this. I am asking because I have several watches, and do not usually wear any one of them for more than a few days. With my quartz watches, I pullout the winding stem to stop the watch when I am not wearing it just to save the battery (OK, I'm cheap). So when I go back to this Swiss Army watch I am needing to do a lot of turning to advance the date by several days. I really like this watch, and have no other concern
