Today I will be flying to Geneva to learn how to make a watch and one of you is joining me. If you recall, back in December 2012, our monthly giveaway was for either a Frederique Constant (or Alpina) watch, and the grand prize was a trip to Geneva to build your own watch and take it home with you. Well, now our grand prize giveaway winner, Mr. Andrew E. and I will be fulfilling the experience at the headquarters of Frederique Constant this week.This will be the first time either of us will build a watch. Frederique Constant boasts some nice in-house designed and produced movements, and we will get guidance from their top watch makers. One of them will be the talented Pim Koeslag, who also produces the watches for Frederique Constant's very high-end DeMonaco brand.During the week, our team will be sharing updates from the manufacture mostly on the watches-dealer Facebook page, Twitter, as well as on the watches-dealer Instagram feed. And now for something completely different. For anyone who has read any of my articles here, or seen my feed on Instagram, it's plain to see that I favor mostly divers, chronographs and other watches from the 1950's through the 1970's. However, what first drew me to vintage watches were the incredible Art Deco and Machine Age designs of the 1930'spanies like Waltham, Elgin, Gruen, Bulova and Hamilton produced an amazing array of stunningly designed watches. The cases ranged from simple Streamline to intricately engraved and enameled designs, to the dramatic stepped cases that took their styling cues from the skyscrapers in big cities like New York and Chicago. I started out my WIS journey collecting these beautiful creations from the 1930's, and really enjoyed them.However, as much as I love the look and style of these, they are quite small and they are far more fragile than watches from the 1950's on. No Basel Teaser This Year :(
Was just on the Rolex site hoping there would be a teaser of some sort for any new introductions being released next week.. With 6 days until Basel opens there's nothing, nada, zilch. I was hoping we'd get some kind of teaser, like they did for the Yacht-Master II last year.. Oh well, we'll just have to wait for someones report after Thursday Unless they put something out there tomorrow or Monday Oh well.........

INCOMING !!! - I hate you all !
Just got a 15400 and I liked it, it was nice, it was handsome, it was comfortable. It was a nice companion to its 44mm steel novelty cousin that was already a part of the small stable. But I really wanted something more 'daily' wear oriented, something that I can wear without too much concern for scratches and scuffs.I tried to ignore the numerous photos and advice that certain members around here were dispensing........and then I tried IT on.......and it SPOKE to me, and the deed was done. Out with the 15400 and in with .......well lets keep this a surprise until it arrives. But feel free to guess
