18 Entrants Will Compete in the 2011 International Chronometry Contest
Fourteen watchmaking companies and four schools will participate in the 2011 International Chronometry Contest. The winners will be announced on October 20 at Chateau des Monts ¨C Horological Museum of Le Locle. Find complete details and a list of entrants inside. For 2011, the competition has been modified with the contestants divided into three groups: traditional movements, tourbillons, and watchmaking schools.During the competition, the timepieces are subjected to a variety of tests that are based on international standards, and that are much more rigorous than the well-known Official Swiss Control of Chronometers (COSC) tests. In-house quartz watch movements at Breitling? Pretty much, "yes," with the new Breitling Cockpit B50 timepiece in their Professional collection of watches. OK, so let's start by talking about the whole "in-house quartz" part of the conversation, as it is perhaps the most interesting, outside of the design of the watch. For years, Breitling has been sourcing high-end thermocompensated quartz movements from Swiss ETA. These come in a few varieties, but are contained in all the quartz movement-based Breitling watches, from their totally analog dials (three-handers and chronographs) to their various ana-digi (analog-digital) watches that have both traditional hands as well as two LCD screens. Breitling now pushes forward to create their own evolved movements based on the foundation that ETA laid.None of this means that Breilting is going to stop using ETA thermocompensated quartz movements in some of their watches (such as the famed Aerospace), but rather that they are adding a new flavor

Orange monster regulation redux
Hey, guys,Just got my Monster, yesterday, and love it. It's running pretty fast (@ +26 seconds), but I'm not panicked about it.I have an Invicta Grand Diver that I love, and it started out running about +12, and stayed that way. After several weeks, I regulated it, to +/- 1 sec. per day. That's remarkable, and the result of a lucky stab at the regulating lever. My goal is to get within, say, 10 seconds (preferably fast) with my new Orange Monster.Here's my question (which is gonna sound more like a statement) I've never experienced a marked "settling in" effect, even though I've bought/owned dozens of automatic watches in my life. My autos have all stayed pretty much the way they were, when I first took them out of their boxes maybe plus or minus 5-10 seconds.I've never had a watch that started out 25-30 seconds fast "settle in" and equalize to within COSC standards, although I read lots of apocryphal anecdotes from guys who say this happens all the time.
