The Britains are Coming: Burberry’s New Watch Collection
Following in the footsteps of brands like Ralph Lauren, Herm¨¨s and Louis Vuitton, all of which have made moves to enhance the perception of so-called fashion watches, the British fashion house Burberry is releasing a new high-end wristwatch collection with Swiss movements, called the Britain. Designed by Burberry’s chief creative director Christopher Bailey, the watches evoke the look of the brand’s most famous contribution to the fashion world, the iconic Burberry trench coat. The cases have a rounded octagonal shape and a multi-faceted three-part construction; four custom-designed bolts, inspired by the buttons on the trench coat and screwed down by hand, fasten the bezel to the case middle and caseback. The casebacks have a domed design inspired by those of classical British pocketwatches and, in the models with mechanical movements, see-through exhibition casebacks of sapphire crystal. Christie’s Geneva Auction Achieves Over SFr. 19 Million
Christie’s November 16 Geneva auction set nine world record prices for Patek and Rolex references on the way to achieving the highest total for any watch auction in 2009: SFr. 19,032,388, or just under $19 million. This was nearly twice the pre-sale low estimate. The results reflected sales of 97% by value and 94% by lot. 900 bidders from 5 continents participated in the sale live, online and on the telephone. The top price of SFr. 2,400,000 was paid for a Patek Philippe ref. 1526 perpetual calendar wristwatch. Rounding out the top 5 were a gold 1924 Patek single-button chronograph at SFr. 939,000, a platinum Patek ref. 3448/100 perpetual calendar with moon phases at SFr. 783,000, a pink gold Patek ref. 2438/1 perpetual calendar at SFr. 711,000, and a gold Patek ref. 1579 chronograph at SFr. 675,000. The mechanism breathes life into functions, presented on a black opalin dial. It features a black internal flange, marked with a tachymeter scale printed in white. The dial is equipped with 8 lume-applied trapezoid indexes. The central hours and minutes are indicated by skeletonized, polished and rhodium-plated "Dauphine" hands. Set within the dial of the new Hublot watch are also two wave-patterned 30-minute and 60-second counters, located at 3 and 9 o'clock respectively. The sub-dials are fitted with "Glaive" red hands.

Hamilton Collecting Brainstorming
In the one week that this forum has been open for business, I have been trying to think of a plan for collecting Hamiltons. Here is one thought and I would appreciate others.Someone could set about collecting all the Hamilton watches with a Hollywood connection. Since I teach cinema and screen studies, this would be a perfect excuse, er, I mean plan to sell to my wife.Any other ideas?

I was looking through my vintage watch collection and I have always wanted to know if these have a name. the brown strap watch is 14K gold case the blue starp one is 10K RGP. all mechincal duh of course they are.
