Auction Watch: Christie's Harry Winston Opus Collection Results
On May 30th, 2012 Christie's auction house in Hong Kong was host to the latest installment in their "Important Watches" auction series (which included a ton of watches). While this auction featured much of the normal fare from Panerai and Rolex, the main call for interest was an unparallelled representation of the Harry Winston Opus line. We have written of the Opus line in the past, but for those not in the know Opus is essentially a distinct line of Harry Winston timepieces which have been created in a collaborative partnership between Harry Winston and many of modern Horology's most talented independent watch makers. The concept behind the Opus collection comes from the powerhouse mind of Max Busser who ran Harry Winston's watch division before founding MB&F in 2004/2005. Harry Winston works with one independent watch maker per year to produce a limited edition watch which is then announced into the fan fare of BaselWorld. Last Sunday I went to Belgium...
....and picked up a few of my vintage Omega's.My watchmaker did a overhaul on them.I picked up 5 but I have only pictures of two of them, rest will follow soon..First this one, bought it on Ebay for only a few $$, worth a try I thought...When the postman brought it it was horrible, the case was very dirty and the movement made a terrible noise..But then again, what can you expect for only $30,-.....After my watchmaker was done with it it looked like this...Needless to tell you all that I am VERY happy with the result.The second one was the Omega that I gave to my mom about a year ago.After a complete service it's ready for years of duty..Gave it back to her last evening, she was so thrilled she had tears in her eyes..Like I promised, the rest will follow soon..

Post mortem provisions for your watches
This is kind of morbid, but I've never seen this question asked....I am very emotionally attached to most of my time pieces as I'm sure most of my fellow WIS friends here are. The hardest time I have is wondering what will happen to my collection after I die some day. I don't have a son to pass them onto, Do you think my daughter (currently 3yrs old) would appreciate them? What provisions have any of you made for your watches after your demise?

Fake Patek on eBay
I normally don't worry about the plethora of fakes on ebay... I will however make an exception for this one as it appears to be fooling many punters..ebay.au/itm/400995053...617&rmvSB=trueI haven't wasted my time checking the numbers with the manufacturer as I am sure its crap... they are reasonably convincing to most.Beware of complicated vintage pateks.... they have been reproducing them in china for some time now.... $4500us to convert a Valjoux 23 into a Patek 130..... about 10k for a complete watch.....the newer versions are even more convincing...Be careful.
