Tudor Watches To Return To US Market In 2013
For the last 3-4 years, we've been speculating that Rolex (who owns Tudor) would be keen to return the Tudor sub-brand to the United States market where it has been absent for a long time. Rolex itself has dominated the US, likely fearing that the lower-priced Tudor brand would act as a competitor. With Rolex owning at least 25% of the luxury watch market, it was in their best interest to not fix what wasn't broken. However, over the last few years, Tudor watches have been increasingly different from those of Rolex. While Tudor watches are produced alongside Rolex timepieces, they use ETA-sourced Swiss watch movements versus movements made in-house at Rolex. I'm really into the history of my watches. I like it most when it has some kind of engravings on the back. With one Waltham I could trace the original owner of the watch. But who wore what?What kind of people bought these watches? Can somebody tell me more of the Waltham/Hamilton/Elgin buyers from the 20's and 30's? And what did the famous gangsters buy like Al Capone?

I was really upset that I got sniped on a sweet caliber 22A at the beginning of the month, but the Watch Gods paid me back in spades! I'll be using the seller's pics for this post as I've only got my hands on one of these so far.First up is a stainless Silver Arrow with a very uncommon caliber 23ZDS. Most watches with this name on the dial are refinished generic 30L's that somebody decided to try to put one over on a n00b. Got a confirmation from Longines Archives and an old Longines ad too.I'm pretty stoked to get this model even though it's in lesser condition than I normally go for. These don't pop up very often, and when they do they're usually redials or nearly junk. I'll have to find a correct crown but that's not gonna kill me.Next is a 14ct caliber 280 that's in great condition.Came from a seller who knows how much of a fanatic I am for the brand. Just heard back from our local APSC that a grey panda dial is available out of AP Switzerland for my 39mm rosegold ROC at a reasonable price. I absolutely love the grey panda dial, especially now that AP has introduced the panda dial on the 41mm stainless steel and rosegold 41mm ROCs.Problem is my wife loves the white dial because it's a decent match to her rosegold Rolex. What do you think? Should I pull the trigger on the grey dial?
