New from Parmigiani: Two Wristwatches Inspired by the Past
Parmigiani Fleurier has unveiled two new limited-edition wristwatches inspired by antique pocketwatches from a collection owned by Parmigiani Fleurier¡¯s parent, the Sandoz Foundation. Both wristwatches are part of Parmigiani¡¯s Toric collection. Find images, prices and wallpaper inside. The pocketwatches that inspired the new wristwatches are on view in New York at the well-known vintage-jewelry and Russian-art gallery ¨¤ La Vielle Russie. They are part of an exhibit called ¡°Mechanical Wonders,¡± featuring 50 pieces from the Sandoz Collection, and running through Nov. 26. Awards Keep Coming for Lange Zeitwerk
The members at TimeZone have voted the Lange Zeitwerk “Watch of the Year”. About 800 watch enthusiasts took part in the poll. This is the Zeitwerk’s ninth award since May, 2009. Last week, Lange’s latest iconic model took second prize in the category ¡°Watches over 25,000 Euro¡± in Germany¡¯s ¡°Goldene Unruh¡± (Golden Balance) awards given by WatchTime’s sister publication Uhren Magazin in cooperation with Germany’s Focus magazine. What's Acceptable & What's Not
I have a problem that needs some knowledgeable input/advice. I recently purchased a new chronograph w/ a Valjoux 7750 movement. I immediately noticed a very jittery, irregular chrono second hand movement but was told this can be an annoying but not uncommon characteristic of this movement. I then discovered the minute hand has considerable free play (slop) when adjusting the time, making an accurate setting difficult. Another time, when using the chrono function, it took 3 pushes of the button to start the second hand moving - I'd been wearing the watch daily so it was fully wound. Several other times, again when starting the chronometer, the second hand jumps back about a half second before moving forward. I contacted the AD about the problems & they've been very cooperative & I returned the watch @ their suggestion. This particular German-made watch has a reputation for being a bit difficult to find & needs servicing at the manufacturers facility in Germany. The AD

I thought I would try to summarise the key benefits and drawbacks of buying a new Patek (new from an AD) versus pre-owned. Obviously only in relation to references that are part of the current range.Benefits:-Price - a significant saving can be made by buying a pre-owned Patek from a private seller or unofficial dealer. This could be in excess of 30%.Availability - for those willing to pay a premium they can find references that are unavailable from AD's. The 5131 J or G is an example. Flexibility - it may be easier to part exchange or trade watches as part of a deal with an unofficial dealer.Service - there are many happy customers on this site that have purchased from one of the well known resellers who have delivered an exceptional level of customer service.
