Once again, we've had a request from our readers for a guide. This time, it's on affordable dress watches. Now, dress watches are a bit of a funny category, in my honest opinion. What really defines it? Is it a small size and elegant materials? Is it glitz, glamour and dare I say, bling? Is a nice pilot watch really going to be reproached at your friend's wedding? Is a stylish diver going to get stink eye at your nephew's bar mitzvah? No¡­I doubt it. Yet, there is a sense of what distinguishes a dress watch from other watches: non-aggressive lines, subtle but elegant dials and cases, lack of color and an overall look that compliments an outfit, rather than acts as the star. It is certainly subjective, and I think one should wear what is most comfortable to them and what is appropriate for the situation. New Seamaster, finally
I don't have any pictures to post (of quality) other than my telephone (I have to find where my wife put the camera...).After over a year of looking, reading, looking some more I finally purchased an Omega 2220.80 SeaMaster. As fate would have it, at the same time a 2502.80 Aqua Terra became available for almost half the normal retail. Stupid I guess, but I wound up with both...I attached as a low res image - not sure if tihis is the correct method...Of the two, the James Bond SMP is my favorite. Dial size is very slightly smaller. The smooth blue face with highlights of the Aqua Terra are what make this particular face stand out and why I like it over the black face. I also like the Broad Arrow like minute hand.I use a Citizen Ecodrive Stars and Stipes as my current every day watch. But after handling and wearing the Omegas I may change my mind...

Lloyd's a big guy for a lady
My Khaki Field Auto was my choice for today, but when I set it and wound it, it wouldn't work. The second hand stayed where it was (and yes, I pushed the crown back in). So wife and I went to the AD and he sent it off under warranty for repair (and to slow it down a bit). Meantime, Herself spotted this big Lloyd chrono with four garnets (I call them UT burnt orange), and she got a heck of a deal on it. It's a man-sized watch and with another band, I figure I can borrow it from time to time. Buying an 11-year-old Explorer II...service it?
I¡¯m about to acquire an 11-year-old Explorer II that I¡¯m assuming has never been serviced. I¡¯m wondering if getting it serviced is the first thing I should do, mostly concerned about the case remaining waterproof. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
