Lange is introducing a new pink gold version of the 31, the first mechanical watch to achieve a power reserve of 31 days. The movement is powered by two stacked mainspring barrels, each with a spring that is slightly more than 6 feet long. A constant-force escapement between the twin mainspring barrels and the going train assures that the balance receives an identical amount of energy every ten seconds, regardless of the state of wind of the springs. This much power takes up space, making the Lange 31 movement as large as some watches: 37.3 millimeters in diameter and 9.6 millimeters thick. This presented challenges to Lange’s designers. For example, on the dial alone, the designers considered more than 70 versions over 2 years. Tiny details, such as whether the hour markers should be a fraction of a millimeter longer or shorter, were considered. Uniform Wares 250 Series
The 250 line from Uniform Wares marks an interesting new direction for the brand. While still being a very unique and contemporary take on the wristwatch, the influence of mid-century watch design is more apparent in the company’s new design. According to Uniform Wares "the 250 series pays homage to post WWII gentleman's wrist watches¡­" which is clearly visible in the body style, military-esque beveled chapter ring and applied hour markers (previous models from the brand had only printed faces). The 39mm x 8mm body is on the large size for a mid-century watch, but on the small size for a contemporary piece,placing it in that very comfortable to wear range. Please take this with a grain salt. Apparently, Rolex Executives are quite angry with the new owners of the Formula One Group. It is rumoured, Rolex will not renew any sponsorship with F1 when the contract terminates.One reason is that Rolex is angry that a certain Dutch brewing company has been infiltrating Rolex's product placement and that Rolex does not want to be associated with a beer company and all that it suggests.My source? Formula 1 season opens here in my neck of the woods and a few Rolex Executives are around. Once again, this is pure speculation but watch this space.
