Cartier W61001T9 wrist watches news:
The fifth edition of Only Watch, the charity timepiece auction held biannually in Monaco, takes place on September 28, and news and photos of several of the one-of-a-kind watches to be auctioned off have started to be released, including models from Breguet, Harry Winston, Girard-Perregaux, Laurent Ferrier, and Piaget.Held at Monaco’s Heritage Hotel under the patronage of HRH Prince Albert II, the Antiquorum-sponsored Only Watch auction raises funds for Duchenne muscular dystrophy research, using the proceeds from the sale of unique or first-in-a-series watches made by prestigious brands. This year, 33 brands have contributed watches, including the five unique pieces below, whose images and details are among the first to be provided to WatchTime. The Breguet Classique Chronograph Openworked 5284 has an 18k yellow gold case with fine fluting on the caseband that echoes the earliest timepieces made by brand namesake Abraham-Louis Breguet. The open-tipped hour and minute hands were f
There's a listing on the Swamp - 260879621803 - for an Elgin Deluxe that purports to have a 559, 21j movement. That would be the wrong movement for that case (should be the 17j 558), but the real problem is that the movement, particularly the train bridge, looks funny. Here's what a 21j Elgin 15/0 movement looks like:That's the 538, predecessor to the 559. Notice the three oval cap jewel settings on the escape, 3rd, and 4th wheels. Those things are inletted and there's a screw that comes in from underneath the bridge to hold the setting in place. They're a PITA to put in, BTW.The watch in the listing is billed as a 559, it says '559' and '21 jewels', but instead of the hole-and-cap jewelling of the 559, it's got standard hole jewels (with the oil cup on top), NO inletting, and NO holes for the screws. I realize this is one of those weird little things that like 5 guys in the whole world know or care about, but I'm mystified. Even if you replaced the jewels on a 559 with standard j
This was missing something so I sent it to Kent at Everest Watchworks for some superluminova on the bezel. After some research I found that Kent was the best in the business. After getting it back, I found it to be an accurate accolade.
The other day I was putting Tung oil on some pine flooring and when I was cleaning up with mineral spirits I got it all over my fairly new Orient watch. The first thing I did was wipe it down with a rag and went inside and washed it with slightly warm water and dish soap. Then I got to thinking about the best way to clean a water resistant watch. I don't think dish soap is a good idea because it is supposed to break down oils and grease so I would think that if your watch had any "O" rings in it this soap might dry them out and make them less flexible. Has anybody out there used mineral oil to loosen any dirt and then give the watch a good wipe down. This seems like it wouldn't be a bad idea.Anyway, if anybody has any suggestions or good methods please post them.
Genta killed it with the octagonal shaped case..... And that's all I have to say about that ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
