A little Elgin find livens up my month.
I haven¡¯t been doing anything particularly interesting lately. Mostly tracking down parts and scavenging for Elgin 8/0 balances and hairsprings. If only Doug can get the cost of restaffing down under $20 I might be convinced to stop dismantling poor helpless grade 554¡¯s. I did stumble on one interesting Elgin in my searches.¡°This is a vintage Elgin DeLux watch in a gold filled case. The case shows wear to the back. The movement is not running. I am sorry I could not get the case open for pictures of the movement. I am selling it as is. The crystal is okay and the dial is aged. The watch is 37mm long and 31mm wide not including the crown.¡± said the seller.I didn¡¯t pay much attention to the details but I figured it was probably good for a hairspring so I bid. $14.50 later and I pulled it out of the packing and got the back off the case. Forgot about Amazon Sunday delivery, box came in with Spouse yesterday afternoon. I didn't notice the difference in the box size when ordering, the red strap (40MM) watch is packed in a box almost twice as large as the pink (39mm) along with a sturdy yellow outer cardboard box (the pink one has a lightweight generic outer box). Only one polishing cloth too, but I'm thinking about just picking up two nice ones to replace the one that was sent and they'll never know. Twins cost more when little, but at least they are delighted to receive exactly the same gifts. When it gets tricky is when they get older and each one is becoming an individual. How to buy different, but equal is a real challenge!Anyhow, the main event is just as good as they looked in the ad¡ªand Amazon has the same items this week for almost twice what we paid!

Anyone here can share some thought about the watch? Im planning to go to Japan. Originally tried to hunt some rolexes, but found out the price nowadays is getting very unlogical. So I tried to find some other brand. And i just recall that I used to admire this watch so bad.I checked to some dealer in Japan, price of this watch preowned will be around usd7100 over there. Is the price good enough?How this watch hold the value if i purchase with that price?
