You know some interesting watch related thing will happen to you that day when at lunch your bottled water has this label: Oh, pardon the crappy iPhone pics in this post. Finished up and took a walk. Dropped Windy off at the chiropractor's office and hit a few of my "little" spots nearby. Came across this Hamilton pocket watch with a caliber 917:The movement looked very good and the rest was in nice shape. The seller wants $175 for it so if you're interested let me know. I can't tell you if that's a fair price or not though. Anyway, picked up a little something for myself:Before I go into Omega vintage dive watches I thought I'd see if a less expensive option was to my liking. There's a few light scratches on the crystal but otherwise it's in fine shape. I remembered you guys talking about these vintage Aquadives and figured I'd see if the commotion was justified.

One thing I notice on the website is that the movement is listed as "Movement: ε (epsilon)¡ªmanufactory caliber with automatic movement, black gold". I did some reading on Wikipedia to find out that this is a 75% gold alloy with 25% of something else (depending on color variation). I am posting to hear your thoughts on some of these questions: - Is black gold alloy tough enough to last decades (pass onto next generation)?- If price of the Zenith and the Nomos were equal: which one would you pick? Why?- If you had to pick a dress watch and you had the choice - with or without date?Thanks for your feedback

thinking my next watch may be a panerai but.....
hiI'm pretty interested in a pam 356 chrono....the daytona is just too small for me and have it be a chrono. i like the size of the omega speedy but to me, the bezel looks a bit cheesy (sorry for the rhyme)....and i love the crown guards on the panerai.....however, in as much as the references to the italian navy don't instil confidence with me, i am used to the reliability of rolex and i really have zero tolerance for a watch that needs maintenance.....i don't want the 'have to tinker with it' ferrarri type, but instead like the reliability of the mercedes or honda type -exclusive of quality issues....bottom line: am i setting myself up for issues with the pam 356 or other pams? should i look to iwc's ? thanks in advance...
