Need help authenticating - real or fake?
Came in the mail yesterday but wanted a second opinion from you horological gurus. Here are some pics. I believe it to be a real 861. Hands glow in the dark, spacing between subdials appears correct, has a good patina from age and can be wound - not quartz or automatic. In addition, everything is nice and crisp. Exhibition back fad?
Seems to be like the fashionable trend towards bigger watches. A lot brands seem to be doing it, even updating watch models to have a display back where previously it was solid.It would appear, from what I read, this is because it is popular for most customers. Am I among the apparent minoritY that prefers solid casebacks (preferably nicely engraved)?People might say why hide away a beautiful movement? But I think having a movement that cannot be readily seen but you know is still nicely decorated is as satisfying if not more so. Is this a fad or a permanent trend? Will solid casebacks make a comeback?
