Ignore the first 30-60 seconds of this film, it gets really cool after that. I love watching stuff like this because it actually does a very good job at showing you how watches are made at houses like Audemars Piguet. Yes, you need to know what to look for, but pay attention to the tools and techniques used to polish and decorate the movements. This process literally takes up most of the time in watch movement assembly. While the film is supposed to take place in the 19th century (even though some of the stuff looks really modern), the same process is used today to make high-end luxury watch movements. Take the hand-spun machine that spins the movement plate around, today it is just done with machines but that are more often than not still controlled by a human operator. A bit of a dilemma...
Ok, sometime back I had asked some of you for your advice on some high end watches since I was hoping to come into a bit of spare cash. But after much consideration, I decided to invest most of it and now I'm left with just a quarter of the original budget. Recently, a few of us friends were discussing to take a small trip to either Singapore or Hong Kong, sometime in November. Although its still tentative, I am wondering whether to go ahead with the trip or to save up for another few months and go for a high end watch.What do you guys feel?

LePhare DeLuxe Calendar--Triple Date
I picked up this old LePhare Triple Date Calendar watch today and must say I am quite excited to get it in wearable condition. I am already set on the band I will use so the easy part is done. It winds right up and ticks away without stopping, although it does not keep accurate time at all. In addition, the pins for setting the date/calendar features are frozen and do not work either, with the exception of the month pin which moves it a bit but does not turn it over. Obviously, it needs to be completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled, and any bad parts replaced. Sadly, the gentleman who fixes all of my other watches does not work on the more complicated watches, not because he cannot, but because he just does not have the 'time" necessary to spend on them. So, I will have to look around for the right person to work on this for me. In any event, it is not a watch I have seen very often and thought it was worth a small mention and a little sharing.

UK Watch Insurance
I am seeking some advice that can hopefuly be offered in this great forum. After living and working abroad for 9 years I am finally moving back to the UK. I will still be travelling around the world 3 weeks a month though so will require world wide cover. I am looking for specialist watch insurance for my collection, I have spoken to various home insurers and none will accept the watches as a listed item. Can any one recommend a good watch insurance company, or maybe one that does house hold cover, and would accept my watches. My collection on a new basis would be around the 80k GBP mark.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
