Historical Perspectives: Something To Consider: The Watch On The Left Costs (Approximately) 100 Times As Much As The Watch On The Right
The watch on the right is a Universal Geneve Tri-Compax in stainless steel. It belonged to a man named Reginald Fullerton, who was the grandson of the great early 20th century watch collector (and commissioner of the most expensive watch in history) Henry Graves, Jr. It was sold at the final Graves auction that took place in June of 2012 at Sotheby's.? I purchased it at that sale for around $2,750, and you can read why I did that right here.?The watch dates to about 1945 (Fullerton purchased it new from the Henri Stern Watch Agency in 1948 while visiting with his grandfather) and features a triple calendar, plus moonphase, and chronograph, in a steel case.?The watch on the left looks a heck of a lot like my Universal Geneve, and was even sold alongside my watch at the HSWA in the 1940s, but it's worth about 100 times as much.? It is, of course, a Patek Philippe reference 1518 in yellow gold, and while it looks a lot like my UG, it has one (ok, a few) very important differences.? This w

Studs on the back of G-Shock watch
I bought my first G-shock watch. It's a Mudman and seems pretty nice.It has only one problem. On the back, there are 5 hard rubber studs or buttons. Even under no pressure at all, they would dig into my skin hard. It's a major discomfort.What are they for and how do I get rid of them?

Would like to share my first Patek Philippe timepiece here.Patek Philippe. Gen¨¨ve.Patek Philippe Naviquartz Chronometer, Ref : E1200, Cal. 33 with quartz standardization marina electronic chronometer with sweep centre seconds in original mahogany box. Manufactured in the late 1960s. In black dial, inner Arabic numerals, Arabic seconds indication to the outer raised chapter ring, in black painted cast metal case with chromium plated bezel.The original purpose of any chronometer is to be used in celestial navigation. In conjunction with a sextant and star chart a captain or sailor would measure the degrees that a known star is above the horizon (or it's Zenith) at a given time and date and get a position on the ocean. A minute error in measure of degrees or time will equate to many nautical miles of position error so accurate time is essential.

New or Pre-Owned?
Hi all,I have no doubt this has been covered but can¡¯t seem to find in a quick search. I am now in a position and committed to buying my first Rolex. I have decided on a Submariner but with only two AD¡¯s here in New Zealand I am somewhat restricted with supply. My initial choice is the 116610LN which retails at $12,100NZD but comes down to $10,800 if I take advantage of picking up at airport when I go on holiday (tax off). However the wait time is around 6 months. I am off to the States in Feb and have came across Bobs Watches who offer a large selection of Pre Owned watches. For the same money as the above I can secure a two tone 16803 (1985/6 model) which looks stunning and as good as the current model at twice the money. What are your thoughts on buying a 20 year old watch in comparison to a brand new one? Thanks in advance for all comments.
