Seeking some expert advice on a potential problem
Question for you all My wife is trying to sell her less than one year old Two Tone Datejust. I had never really paid too much attention to her paperwork before, but now that she's trying to sell it, I notice that the paperwork states that this watch is an "F" series! This watch was purchased in December of 2007, and it has the new "continuous bracelet" with the hidden clasp. The person interested in buying the watch had a book (albeit not a book directly from Rolex) and he basically stated that he couldn't go any higher than his quoted price because of the year of the watch, 2004 I believe he said. So my wife stopped by the A.D. where we bought the watch, and the guy said something along these lines...that the watch was in fact a brand new 2007 model watch when we bought it. The reason the paperwork says F series is because sometimes the cases are manufactured well ahead of the rest of the watch, so the case could have been maunfactured during the F series run. Traveling with the GMT-II
There was a thread a couple of weeks ago about whether and how we actually use some of the features of our Rolexes. With that question in mind, I thought I¡¯d offer some observations on a recent travel experience with my new GMT. We all know the GMT-Master IIc (116710 LN) is a good looker¡ªas is the rest of the GMT family. But a recent trip to Hawaii showed the watch to be surprisingly practical as well. The quick-set hour hand made it easy to set local time at the layover airport, avoiding complacency or panic when comparing watch time to the scheduled departure time. At the destination I set the hour hand to local time, leaving the 24 hour hand on east coast ¡°home¡± time with the bezel at neutral (triangle at 12 o¡¯clock). Playing with it, I saw how turning the bezel 3 clicks clockwise could reference California time on the 24-hr hand, or turning it 5 clicks counter-clockwise could reference Greenwich time, if for some reason it was important to keep track of those times. Does anyone have any info about what Eta is doing with its 251 quartz movements? Reportedly, Eta has not been supplying the market with them. However, rumours abound and the truth is never clear in these cases. What's the skinny?

In praise of the Datejust
Is the Datejust under-estimated among watch fans? Maybe so. It's easily the best selling Rolex model, and has been for decades. So it's the watch that real buyers go for. We bang-on about the professional range...Submariners, Daytonas and so on..but that's not what a large slice of Rolex buyers want or desire. I've just bought a new 41mm Datejust with Jubilee bracelet. And it's every bit as lovely as my Daytona, but cost far less .....and you can actually buy one. Can't be bad.
